The Oval Hotel is celebrated for its sophisticated ambiance and modern rooms equipped with advanced touch controls and chic furnishings. Nestled in a prime location near Adelaide's CBD and entertainment options, guests are charmed by the views and the proximity to parklands. While the hotel's amenities and service generally earn high marks for their quality and the staff's attentiveness, opinions on value show a divide, with some guests finding prices reasonable and others pointing out high costs. The hotel is also lauded for its cleanliness and state-of-the-art rooms, despite a few mentions of limited space.

The Cathedral Suite in The Oval hotel is one of the nicest suites we've ever stayed in anywhere in the world, and the view across the parklands, cathedral and out to the Adelaide Hills is unbeatable. The furnishings and fittings in the room are first rate, but a potentially 5 star experience is let down by small details which could be so easily fixed.

Staff training seems to be the biggest issue. For example, on one night we ordered a 3 course room service meal so that we could try out the luxurious marble dining table. The meal cost $250+ (with wine) and we assumed it would be presented with some flair on the dining table. Unfortunately everything was just piled onto the table, hot meals left uncovered and only 1 knife and fork each (no spoons) for a 3 course meal. With a little more effort (and training for the staff) this could have been a "wow" experience, but sadly was a bit "ho-hum".

Another example was room servicing when on one day the rubbish bins weren't emptied, however some of our personal items were removed. It took 2 calls to guest services and over 3 hours to get this sorted.

In room amenities are first rate (the gas fireplace, TV/movie selection, mini bar/Vintec fridges, iron, kettle and hair dryer are amongst the best I've seen in an Australian hotel), but they let themselves down with the quality of toiletries on offer. The bathroom is amazing - twin showers, twin vanity basins and the biggest hotel bath I've ever seen (with a stunning view over the parks), however we got just one small motel size bar of soap and no shower gel (although extras were provided when requested). Once again, a "wow" opportunity missed.

In time I'm sure these issues will be sorted out and I'd then be delighted to give them 5 stars

I took up the opportunity to stay at the Oval hotel with the great state voucher and it was a great decision.

I arrived a little earlier than check in time but a room was available for me on the 5th floor. A welcome drink was not offered to me but as I did not have to wait for a room, I was not fussed. I did see that it is a "help yourself" situation when I ventured through the foyer again. My room faced the parklands, slightly south toward the Torrens and city. The curtains opening as I opened the door for the first time was a lovely touch. The room for myself was just perfect. It didn't feel cramped, even with a table and two chairs by the window. The little touches of lights in the wardrobe, and a sensor light under the sink in the bathroom (so you don't have to put on the full bathroom light during the night) elevated the experience of the room. And the ring light mirror was gorgeous. You're spoiled for choice with a rain head shower or "normal" shower head. Being that the hotel is new, everything was clean and in good shape. The shower, despite the open glass design, didn't leak into the main bathroom floor and the fan cleared away the steam, without you feeling cold under it. The bed and pillows were comfortable and the rooms were quiet. I am a very light sleeper and unfortunately, I could hear the buses and louder cars going down King William Street. I put the air conditioner on to soften the noise. This was the only "fault" I found with my room.

I arrived at the hotel via the train and walked over the bridge to the hotel. I walked into Rundle Mall and down North Terrace from the hotel also. Heading up King William is a slight incline for people who are unfamiliar with the city. It's about a 5 minute walk to the Festival Plaza tram stop which can take you down King William toward Glenelg.

The hotel foyer and Bespoke Kitchen and Bar were all lovely to look at. For breakfast, I was seated by the window overlooking the oval which was lovely. The continental breakfast plus a choice of A la carte is plenty of food. Filtered coffee, tea and juice was included but sides and other drinks were extra. A slight critique is that my food could have been hotter; but I did not ask for this to be rectified.

Staff were all lovely, the hotel itself is beautifully designed. My little getaway in my own city felt very indulgent; an experience I do not usually get!

This new hotel definitely has the wow factor. The reception gives a panoramic view of the city, cathedral and parklands. We paused with a welcome drink.

Our Parkland King room was very modern with motorised curtains, great flatscreen, clever technology and a soft, comfortable bed with quality linen. Nice parkland view. I had a great night's sleep. The bathroom has a soft rainshower outlet, premium toiletries and a mirror with daylight/warm white setting.

Getting used to the techy features in the room takes a few minutes. It is good use of tech to have a compendium and communications in a tablet computer. The wifi was also good and helped us plan our days.

The mini bar is well-stocked. A little precarious with glasses on the rack and mirrored/glass surfaces, so reasonable care is needed, even if it does look good. We had some debate between us as to whether Pol Rogor from France was more suitable than perhaps an Australian Arras, Jansz, or Adelaide Hills Bird in Hand, and more affordable.

Next Gen is available adjacent for guests. We visited to get an overview. If we had more time, we would have made use of the facilities. Very impressed.

We left the car home. As local Adelaide residents we opted to make our own arrangements, as public transport is cheap, frequent, close by and saved some hassles, and put a bit in our pocket for extras.

Great new Hotel.

Recommended.

Stayed here for 2 nights as part of opening special. Location is lovely and unique. Views from Bespoke bar of oval are amazing. Staff are friendly and are trying well to please. However the hotel is suffering from few teething problems that it needs to sort out for me to give it a higher rating.
1. We asked for a morning paper. It was not delivered. When questioned was told it was not possible as it was the day before a long weekend. What the? We had to walk into town to buy a paper.
2. Rubber seal was hanging from bottom of the door. Was not fixed until the next day.
3. Coffee plunger was not cleaned during room make up service.
4. We were not advised by staff that a complementary shuttle to other parts of the city could be arranged when we asked how to get somewhere. When speaking to another guest they advised us they were offered a shuttle to the same location.
5. The most disappointing part... we had a top level room with stunning view of the cathedral. We had booked this for 2 nights but on 2nd day the TV stopped working and IT, who apparently live on site, could not come out to fix. We were moved to a different room that did not have the same or similar view with no offer of compensation. This was a real dampener to the end of our stay.

Would I stay here again? Maybe.

This is the 2nd time my partner and I have stayed at the Oval Hotel and once again it did not disappoint.

The location, attached to the Oval just over the river from the CBD is a perfect location. There is parking underneath the Oval and you are greeted with a welcome drink on arrival. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. We were very surprised of how quiet it was. There was bell ringing practice at the Cathedral and we did not hear a thing. We heard no traffic disturbances nor any noise from the event being held on the other side of the river. It must be the quietest hotel in the CBD.

The hotel itself if fairly small, with all the rooms spread over 4 floors. Our room had a view of the parklands and of the cathedral. The other side views are of the river and CBD.
We had a basic room, which was more than adequate. The in-room tablet was very informative and easy to use, controlling the a/c, lights, curtains, plus ordering room service etc as well as being a source of local information.
The bed was quite large and comfortable plus the pillow ordering service (plus the quiet) meant my partner had one of the best nights sleep in a CBD hotel.
I would prefer free bottled water in the room, next time I’ll remember to bring my own. Thought it might be due to an Enviro-friendly stance however the lack of recycling options and choice of single use toiletries did not suggest that. Our room although well equipped did not have an ISDN port which meant working at the hotel was difficult, as most company firewalls stop at hotel wifi logins. With no Business Suite, I would not suggest this hotel was suitable for business travellers which is a shame.

The hotel does not have a gym or pool on site, however you can use the NextGen facilities next door. They don’t tell you this at reception, so just ask.

The Hotel does have a bar and 2 restaurants next to each other overlooking inside at the actual Oval. The view is lovely. You can even sit outside. We only had breakfast at the Bespoke restaurant. Thought the choices of breakfast had dropped a little from our first stay. Overall we found the prices for food and drinks in the whole hotel a little expensive considering the room prices. Over $6 for mini bar water, $13 for a glass of bubbles. Breakfast for two was $76, basically pancakes & toast!

Not sure what the hotel is like when there is an event on. Could be difficult to access, plus probably not as peaceful.

Would we stay again? probably, but for leisure not business and we’ll bring our own water!

Dear jonI9, Thank you for once again choosing to stay with us at Oval Hotel. It is an absolute delight to read your review and hear you speak so fondly of Oval Hotel and all we have to offer. We are certainly proud of our Hotel and the team dedicate themselves to sharing it with our guests for the best experience possible. I can certainly advise that the hotel is still very quiet on an event. There can be some noise of the build up to the event as the atmosphere arises but once the event commences inside the Oval the noise travels upwards and the rooms are just as peaceful! We also ensure all our guests have the valet carparking offering to them for ease of access to the hotel, plus on an event there is exclusive access to the stadium direct from the Hotel which means no line ups. I hope I tempt you to come for a third stay maybe on an event. We certainly appreciate the sentiment you have provided in relation to the value of some food and beverage offerings and these will be addressed accordingly. Many thanks again for you review and supporting Oval Hotel. Mieke and the Oval Hotel team.

The hotel is amazingly quiet...no background noise of people in the hotel or city trafffic outside anywhere.
The rooms are beautifully appointed with computerised lights and curtains that operate upon entering.
Only major diaappointment in the room was the green sensor light that is off to the side of the bed in the lounge area ceiling ....it is so bright it kept me awake for some time during the night.
We had a birthday lunch at the Bespoke restaurtant and while most of the service and meal was excellent....one of our mains that we shared was way overcooked so it was very tough and chewy and therre was not much of an apology for this from the waitress when we brought it to her attention.
I had also organiesed prior to our arrival that we would order a dessert and they were going to write happy birthday to my partner on the plate in icing but this did not happen either. So a big dissapointment at the restaurant.
However breakfast there the next morning was much better than the expensive lunch the day before.

Last weekend we had a lovely ‘stay cation’ at The Oval, Adelaide.
We arrived at 2pm in the afternoon and drove straight into the underground car park. We had booked valet parking and so parked the car in the dedicated area which is clearly delineated and like an indoor carport.
The concierge greeted us, did an inspection of the car and took our keys.
We travelled by the lift to the third floor reception. Booking in was easy. Our room on the sixth floor had beautiful parkland, city and hills views. There was a device to navigate the room and to order room service. The bathroom was glorious with plenty of products to use. There was a fully stocked bar bridge and snacks. The electronic curtains impressed my wife greatly.
After dropping off our suitcases we went to the Bespoke Wine Bar for a drink or two. Service was friendly and responsive.
The views of the iconic Adelaide Oval were breathtaking. We went outside to get an even better view, it was glorious.
The Oval Hotel is so well located. After drinks we went for a walk across the footbridge, along the river bank and up to the road and back to the hotel.
We then headed back to the Reception area to enjoy the wonderful views and our complimentary coffee and drinks.
Unfortunately the Bespoke Wine Bar and Kitchen was all booked out so we decided to have room service.
We ordered using the device and the food arrived well within 30 minutes.‘Gogo’ delivered the food. He made up for us not getting into the restaurant and served the food with a flourish and made us feel very special.
It was lovely to enjoy our evening meal and watch the setting sun and the changing vistas out the window.
Unfortunately we had to leave early the next morning. We arrived at the Reception at 6a.m., check out was so simple and our car keys were handed to us and our car in the designated area downstairs.
It is a very impressive hotel and the service is a credit to all who work there!

We’ve already booked to return!

We greatly enjoyed the top floor river suite and now we are booked to return to try the cathedral suite later this year!! The suite was just beautiful, the glamorous bathroom particularly so, and the feel of the hotel generally was very soothing. The fireplace in the middle of the room dividing the bedroom from the living area was gorgeous, as was the lovely view, especially from the bath.....and also when you wake up and gaze out from bed and don’t want to get up! We loved the ample cupboard space to hide all our junk, and the Vintec fridges in the entertaining area, albeit that for a premium suite it was surprising that the mini bar basics, soft drinks and snacks etc, were not included. In fact, since the suites are advertised as having ‘exclusive extras’ we have no idea what they were!!! There was some port in the room, which was a nice touch, so perhaps that was it??
Having the compendium ‘on screen’ and being able to request services on the in-room tablet should be quite efficient. As far as the device itself goes, however, it doesn’t sit straight on its stand and tips over and swings around all the time making it quite awkward to use!
The following comments are now just made for what they are worth, and are not aimed at detracting from this beautiful hotel, but there’s always room for improvement, certainly when you consider the nightly rate for the suite!!!!:
There are no bath salts/bubble bath liquids provided to use in that beautiful huge bath!
Also, no espresso machine, which in a suite is really now just an expected convenience. The coffee plunger provided had not been cleaned and had used coffee grounds in it. Hmmmm.
The front desk person who checked us in was very swift when we asked for an ice bucket for our champagne, and we were grateful for that service, but she arranged a wine cooler not an ice bucket. Hmmmm again.
Finally, parking needs to be set out far more clearly on the confirmation email. There is nothing to tell you (until you ring up and listen to an automated message!) that in fact you can drive your car into the Wilson parking and unload luggage for 15 mins without charge, in case you do in fact wish to park somewhere else. That would be stock standard information to supply given the slightly strange position of the hotel.

Finally DO NOT MISS the Five Regions restaurant on site!

Partner and I spent a night at the Oval Hotel. Easy self-park in the Oval carpark (24 hours - $29) and then into the lobby/reception area that had the most incredible view of the hills and the cathedral. Olivia at reception greeted us with a beautiful smile and warmth and reminded us to come back for a welcome drink. The reception area has beautiful gold light fixtures from Italy and comfortable leather seats. We had a glass of wine and relaxed before grabbing our swimming gear and heading off to Next Gen gym just a short walk away. It was a very hot day so we enjoyed the outdoor pool. The room we stayed in was small but there was certainly enough room to put our things in the closet and we were more than comfortable. Loved the electronic sophistication of curtains opening/closing as we entered or left the room. The bathroom is beautiful with a mirror that has two light settings, changeable with a touch of the button. Again, our view of the Hills and cathedral was mesmerising. Bed was super comfortable, big quality TV and the room had an array of bar and snack items. Dinner was at the Malt Shovel Tap House across the bridge (super meal) and then we returned to sit outside at seats overlooking the Oval with drinks from the Bespoke Bar. Breakfast was impressive and service was excellent. It was hard to leave this little hotel of loveliness and elegance. We will be back. Well done Oval Team! We loved this little getaway.

We are local living in the hills and stay at a city hotel monthly.

We stayed at the Oval hotel in December without issue, standard rooms were on the small side but well presented with good city/hills views. The restaurant and bar area had great ambiance, the staff were excellent. Breakfast was adequate but initial plate was clearly put together the night before, the pastries, fruit and ham were all quite dry.

We booked to stay again Friday 8th January, we were not advised that a BBL game was on. As a result we could not access the bar, restaurant or even use the hotel car park directly under the building unless we paid extra for valet parking. Parking was available a walk away from the main building.

A simple note on the website before booking would ensure this does not happen to others, we are locals and could easily have returned home but anyone travelling a distance or not aware of other good hotels in the city would have been at a great disadvantage. You do not book a hotel for room only, you can get this at a back packers. You book a hotel for the facilities available and at the Oval when there is an event on there are none.

You can go from the bar/restaurant area straight out to the oval. There are other entrances either side of reception by the lifts direct in to the Oval but they are only open on match days

Parking is not free. Valet parking is $45 a day or you can self-park and pay the carpark rate (not sure what this is, but if you book a park online rather than just rocking up you get around 25% off the price). If there is a game on this weekend you are forced to use the valet parking service unfortunately. Tram stop is about a 5-8 minute walk from the hotel, across the bridge.
