The InterContinental Adelaide, an IHG hotel, garners applause for its prime location near key attractions and its commendable staff, who deliver attentive service. Guests have lauded the cleanliness, comfortable beds, and the well-equipped gym.
However, the sentiment on value is less favorable, with many guests feeling the hotel's amenities do not justify the cost, citing overpriced services and dated decor. While the gym and breakfast receive nods of approval, the hotel's atmosphere and rooms are frequently described as needing a modern refresh to elevate the guest experience.

Hotel's Favourite
The bed, the bed, the bed, aaah the bed. So cumfy. Room was very comfortable and clean. Beautiful bathroom with bath and walk in shower. Valet service was exceptional and enough staff available for quick service and attention. Easy check-in and out. Magnificent breakfast, nothing too much trouble, just ask.
The price was more than competitive with other hotels in the area. Will try and use this Hotel more.

Stayed at the very, very busy and tired InterContinental in the first few days of January and what a schmozzle it was from arriving at the hotel, checking in, service and the appalling food served at breakfast.
When we arrived there were so many cars waiting to park and unload we had to get out of the taxi halfway up the driveway and drag our luggage to the lobby which has very busy. Some idiot thought it was a good idea to add valet car parking to the casino next door so there were cars everywhere for the past 3 days with not enough staff to park them.
The suite wasn't ready as we had arrived at noon so had to wait over 2 hours for our room.
I had used the IHG cyber security sale in November to book a Club InterContinental rate 50% off for 3 nights @ $250 per night inc access to the Lounge and breakfast in the Riverside cafe.
Much to my surprise we were given a room on the 12th floor overlooking the entrance and casino, I'd stayed on that floor before and was expecting a higher floor and a riverside view. Not the way the hotel is configured as all the club suites are on lower floors with no river or oval views. I rejected the first suite and after discussions with the Omar & the Assistant Manager I was offered the Presidential suite for half price at $2770 - no thanks I'll take the original suite. It has a lounge and separate bedroom and on Saturday night it was very noisy due to the casino and other nearby venues and the usual street revelry.
The next day I asked if we could move to another suite but was told the same thing and we would have to take a smaller room if we wanted a riverside view. Thankfully the next night was quieter.
All the public areas are tired and the rooms need a total refurbishment. I've been staying here since it was the Hyatt 30 years ago and unfortunately the service was poor due to the sheer numbers of people staying at the hotel with capacity at 99%. No bottled water offered in the rooms and of course any touchpoints have been removed from the rooms.
We had breakfast one day which was appalling the food was cold and inedible. I had to ask that the salt & pepper shakers be cleaned as they were filthy.
With new hotels coming into the Adelaide marked this year such as the Skycity hotel next door, the Sofitel & other IHG hotels this hotel for me has finally seen the end of my business forever.
There's been many other comments about the lack of a refurbishment at this property and I don't understand why it hasn't been done.
Tip: Do not take a Club room if you want a view of the river, parks and the Adelaide Oval.

Our family stayed 4 nights here prior to Australia Day especially to view celebrations and the fireworks display over the river Torrens from Elder park. This hotel was ideally located for this. We had rooms on the 14th and 17th floor and providing you were facing the Adelaide oval the views were great. One side of the hotel however takes in the new rebuild of the Adelaide casino which wasn’t great.
The rooms were an octagonal? shape which was interesting and assisted with the views as well as optimising space. Bathrooms were very elegant.
I note some people have commented on tired looking rooms. I have to disagree. We couldn’t fault ours.
Service was excellent across all departments. We used the outdoor heated pool once which was good and the bar a number of times which often had live entertainment. My only fault of the entire hotel was a silly self service wine dispenser which could easily scan your barcode in a credit voucher twice leaving you out of pocket without realising it.
We didn’t need to use the restaurants but did make use of buffet breakfasts each day which again were unbeatable. Service here particularly rates a mention and I highly recommend the baked eggs!
The Intercontinental is central to most Adelaide city highlights. It sits on the River Torrens which makes for a lovely walk or run and is a ferry trip to the Botanical Gardens and the Adelaide Zoo. The hotel is next to Adelaide railway station, sits on the free main light rail line (25 minutes to Glenelg) and is a 15 minute walk to Rundle Mall.
Great location. Great stay!

Dear Johnnoshungry, Thank you to you and your family for visiting us to enjoy the festivities associated with Australia Day recently. It was a pleasure to receive your review and we are so pleased to hear you all enjoyed your InterContinental Adelaide experience and thank you for your support. We were particularly interested to read your feedback concerning the WinEmotion machine within our Atrium Lounge and have consulted with our food and beverage team for their thoughts. We are of the opinion that the barcode on each voucher is not possible to be read twice so we will certainly take this feedback on board and thank you for mentioning in your comments. Kind regards, Michael Gaedtke General Manager

I wont bore you with the shabbiness of the hotel or the complete lack of any customer courtesy and concentrate on the one hour we spent there for which we have been charged over $400.00
We asked when booking and again on check in for a quiet room. Great lengths were gone to to make sure we had a river view room which we were assured was going to be quiet. Except they forgot to mention that a huge pop concert was happening right next door
We told the hotel we could not stay. We had been there one hour but they said they would charge us the full price. We were offered another room which " may not be quite as noisy" or they could phone the council and complain about the noise . Not an option at 6 Pm on a Saturday and after ticket sales probably in excess of $20,000 had been sold
After several emails with duty manager who could not have been more rude she agreed to charge us 50%. We had signed a pre authorisation of $100 to be used against the card on check in .
Now 3 days later we have been charged $299.50 which they say was for 100 for incidentals and 200$ for the room . No pre authorised but actually charged
We have also been charged another $101.50 for the 50% room charge so over $ 400.00 for one hour.
Needless to say the hotel was not full or anywhere near it.
After a phone call they told us they would ring the bank to see why we were charged so much and get back to us !!
Do not stay here ... go to the Hilton ...we did and never again will we stay in any ICG hotels as we have done previously all over Europe. The new casino hotel next door will be open in April

Dear 647judyp, Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback regarding your recent stay with us at InterContinental Adelaide. We are regretful to hear that you were not happy with your experience with us and have been following up with you separately in order to ensure we have done everything possible to assist you in this matter. As a hotel procedure upon check in we pre-authorise our guests for the room rate and incidentals. This is not a charge, but rather a hold that is put on the card and used in the final billing process. These funds are then released back onto your card within 5 business days if unused which is the case in your situation. We are happy to continue conversations with you around your feedback if you choose to. Kind regards, Michael Gaedtke General Manager

We have just spent two nights here with our 3 year old and had the most wonderful “holiday in our own city” experience.
I was a little nervous about being away during this time but I needn’t have worried as every single area of the hotel was immaculate. Not a finger print to be seen and staff constantly cleaning thoroughly. Hand sanitiser available at numerous locations, lifts, lobby, restaurant, lounge so really not a worry there at all.
From the moment we arrived, staff were warm, friendly, and we felt genuinely cared for.
We had the great pleasure of staying in the spectacular Presidential Suite and were blown away by the views from the 24th floor. The suite was heavenly with two lounge areas, dining, huge master bedroom, dressing room, 2nd washroom, and a main bathroom of dreams with sauna and spa overlooking the beautiful River Torrens. We can see why this is the choice of so many high profile guests to our lovely city.
We enjoyed family canapés and drinks in the Atrium lounge with our daughter welcomed and catered for. Lounge staff were attentive and friendly and a real credit to the property as were the staff in the Riverside restaurant where we had breakfast. (particularly the Tuesday morning team)
Concierge were so friendly and even gave us a colouring pack to distract our luxury loving 3 year old from her sadness at having to leave!
Truly so appreciative of the experience you created for us and it will be one we remember and talk about for many years to come.
For a magical Adelaide stay or to celebrate a special occasion the Presidential Suite literally cannot be topped.
Treasured memories of a glorious stay in Adelaide - thank you!

Unusual octagonal shaped rooms give a luxurious sense of open space when compare to traditional rectangular hotel rooms. Bathrooms are beautifully appointed too, with polished stone, separate full bath and large shower.
Some decorator features are looking a bit dated which is reasonable given hotel is 30+years old, but everything (except the timber slat doors) still has a high quality feel.

We were excited to come for our anniversary using the great state voucher, our initial room had a beautiful view on the 18th floor, but was filthy and hadn't been cleaned when we arrived, our second room was on the 14th floor and had a terrible view.
It was actually cleaned so that was a plus. Considering your hotel prides themselves on your cleanliness (signs everywhere) I was extremely disappointed
And our only compensation for this gross oversight was 2 complimentary drinks at the atrium, which was closed when we went to use them after coming back from dinner... We were offered to use them when they opened at 10:30 the next morning.
No mini bar items in the room, found pubes on the towels in our room.
Robes are very rough and uncomfortable.
Had breakfast in the riverside restaurant, very small serve for the omelette, and the breakfast burger was inedible for me (my partner ate some of it after finishing his omelette)
Bacon was over cooked, haloumi was burnt and the eggs were basically powder they were so over cooked.
The plus side is that the coffee was excellent, staff were quite pleasant and did try to help.
But we will not be staying here again.

We stayed as part of the SA Tourism Voucher initiative and felt like a rock star arriving at such a nice hotel AND being well greeted outside and inside the hotel.
Our room, on the 13th floor, was great for an overnighter. The bathroom size was at least a third of the overall floor space. The room and amenities however were aging and could do with an update. There was no welcome pack or guide to the hotel and its facilities. Room Service menu was pricey and quite limited.
The food menu at all establishments inside the hotel was limited to those with $$ to spend and 5 star tastes, for us 'middle class?' night without the kids types, it was a bit much. Breakfast was good, very busy and our order was forgotten but they soon got on it. Service was exemplary.
I would recommend to others, but would i pay full price? Probably not.

We recently stayed here to celebrate our anniversary. We've been regular guests here and always stay in the Club Lounge rooms as we love the feeling of the specialized treatment we received and enjoy the club lounge benefits that come with paying a little extra. We rang up the hotel prior to see what may have changed under the current conditions and were assured that it was slightly modified but we would still be able to have the club lounge experience: "Immerse in unforgettable dining including complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea, evening cocktails and canapés"
Check in was good, friendly staff, room was lovely as usual. However, that was where the similarities ended. The Club Lounge was relocated to Blake's room on the upper lobby for afternoon tea and later canapes and drinks.
Afternoon tea was extremely underwhelming, service was lacking and we felt generally disappointed. If there are two adults, would you not provide enough provisions for two, rather than us trying to work out who was going to have what? It was so stingy that we actually felt guilty asking for another sandwich (which we only asked for as one of us has a food allergy and couldn't eat what was provided).
As for getting the serving staff's attention, it was like they moved in packs of 3 and you had to call out to them to get service. I understand this is different to the usual buffet style service, but wow! It was almost like they were directed to only serve to a capped amount and then avoid that table again. And there were guests next to us that were told they couldn't have any more afternoon tea, so that kind of answered our question. We realised that this was not going to be satisfactory so headed out to North Terrace to get some food.
Canapes/ drinks were later, so we again tried our luck in the Club lounge. Service seemed to be better though and we made sure we at least got to enjoy our drinks. Again the food servings were small and bizarre with one of this, two of that....definitely disappointing in comparison to our previous visits were you could enjoy some beautiful hot food, cheeses, fruits, dips, nibbles. It just felt cheap. The highlight was having a chat to one of the French chefs who was lovely.
The following morning, breakfast was in the riverside restaurant. We had steeled ourselves for disappointment and unfortunately it was. Service was excellent, staff were patient and accommodating with request from the a la carte menu, considering how busy it was. But food was cold, toast was hard. We did let the staff know, and they apologised and then offered us dessert or drinks and then disappeared without following up with their offer. It's like we were given a wide berth! We were checking out that morning, so decided to cut our losses and go.
We used to love staying at this hotel, but definitely won't be wasting our money with the Club Lounge experience until things have changed either back to the buffet style or improved offerings such as allowing guests to chose what they may want to have to eat and just being a little more generous. It is just not worth paying the extra money and guest would be better off staying in a general room and organising their own food / drinks during their stay.

Sorry, I haven’t been on here for a long time. Yes there is a minbar fridge tea and coffee with a kettle provided. Intercontinental was going to be doing major refurb so best to check with them directly before you book this is important to you.

It's probably too late, I just saw this question, sorry. The room I was gives was an accessible room and did indeed have a large bath in it for that reason.
Cheers.

No there isn’t one you can use but they have a laundry service that they collect and return daily. Charges apply.
It’s 5:30pm to 8:00pm.. liquors and six bottles of wines white and red three each.. local beers and a sparkling wine. Absolutely one of the best lounge from IHG!
Not to mention they have a kickass industrial Nespresso machine that make fantastic latte with a touch of the button
