Stayed here as they had 2 queen size beds and was located close enough for ua to get to the zoo. Hotel needs to spend money on carpet and an enclosed shower (not just a curtain) so when you go to the toilet you are not walking through water. We were impacted by multiple fire alarms, which was annoying. They did look after our bags when we check out which was nice. Close to free tram and free bus.

I recently stayed with my wife for 4 nights at the Grosvenor Hotel while attending a conference at the Adelaide Convention Centre. I last stayed at this hotel 6 years ago and have chosen the same title as my original review (when the section I stayed in was the "Ibis Styles Adelaide Grosvenor") for this updated review.

The Grosvenor, which is an older style hotel opened in 1918 (and is so over 100 years old) is in a fabulous location for conferences as it is across the road from the convention centre (which also means it is just across the road from the casino), the Adelaide Railway Station is across the road and there is also a tram stop outside the hotel.

Our room was on the 2nd floor and was very large, with a bathroom at one end and a walk in robe area at the other. While the room was looking a little tired the bathroom appears to have been recently renovated. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the pillows excellent. The room included a bar fridge, tea and coffee making facilities and a full size ironing board, and two "proper" lounge chairs (which I have not previously experienced in an Accor hotel). The room was internal facing and the glass had been frosted over, as well as having curtains, so it was very dark inside without the lights on.

A few things for prospective travelers to note:
* Face washers are still not provided in the bathroom,
* The hotel has ducted airconditioning and the only way this can be adjusted is altering a three speed fan.
* As a Covid management measure the two lifts have a maximum capacity of only 2 people. Noting this is required due to the floor area of the lifts, it does mean you cannot always board a lift when it stops at your floor,
* As a Covid measure the breakfast comprises cereal, pre-packaged muffins and fruit cake (with, on some days, pre-packaged banana bread), fruit and croissants. Two coffee machines are provided. All cups and cutlery are disposable, and the Accor staff were very diligent in disinfecting tables after breakfast customers finished. The priority on cleaning meant that they did not always notice when some items such as butter had run out but (noting that some other breakfast customers adversely commented without bringing it to the attention of the staff) as soon as I asked they replenished the items.
* Lift access needs your swipe card.

Check in and check out were easy. I originally made the booking for this stay for May 2020 but when the Conference I was attending was postponed for 12 months the hotel gave me the options of cancelling the booking or honouring the original rates in 12 months time. I chose the latter option and at $100 per night (including the breakfast) this represents incredible value for such a central hotel. While the older style of the hotel may not suit everyone, I was very happy with my stay and would be happy to stay again at the Grosvenor.

Dear ThinController, We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Grosvenor Hotel Adelaide. I am delighted to read that you had a comfortable stay and enjoyed your visit at our hotel. I 100% agree with you on our location being excellent, very close to everything the Adelaide CBD has to offer when travelling to South Australia. We have a strange layout here at our hotel, being that we were built 101 years ago we have a different structure compared to modern day hotels. Thank you again for sharing your experience, and we hope your next visit will be as pleasant as the previous one. Sincerely, Courtney, Assistant Front Office Manager

As others have said this hotel is tired.

Stayed in room 244 for 6 nights.

Main issues:
hot water in shower is not that hot
grubby, stained soft furnishings
non adjustable aircon - I was both hot and cold on my trip (rooms need fan and heater)

Pros:
good location (especially if attending a conference as I was)
good price
friendly staff
great iron (this is not always the case!)

Hotel offers breakfast in a bag - suggest walking 100m and going to a cafe in Bank St (e.g., Bonobo or Toast).

I would stay again - but only as I tend to use hotels only for sleeping, if you like to sit around in your room or restaurant areas for relaxing, then this is not the hotel for you.

Dear Jeff, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Grosvenor Hotel Adelaide. Your comments and feedback are extremely important and we thank you for sharing them with us. I was happy to read you found our location to be convenient, our staff friendly and were satisfied with our rate and irons! The hotel underwent a name change and re-branding as of the 10th February 2021. We have permanently closed our restaurant and kitchen as a result of this change; this was not a decision made lightly. We are now only offering the grab & go style continental breakfast served during your stay. I am very sorry this isn't the breakfast you were hoping for, I will share your feedback with our management team. The intention of the re-branding process was to enable us to reposition it as an economy hotel with faults that come with the buildings age in mind, such as the dated air conditioning system. Unfortunately this hotel is in the twilight of its existence as the intention is to completely redevelop the property in the not-too-distant future. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Warm regards, Amelia Front Office Team Leader

From an amazing check in with Hassan to a fantastic checkout everything in between was excellent. We got parking at the hotel all staff helpful and friendly. Rooms may have some “character” it was extremely clean and our basic room was large plenty of space down side of bed both sides. Very quiet. Didn’t have to squeeze or wait for husband to pass before I could move. Decent wardrobe and drawer space have had to live out of suitcases in more modern hotels because they have no or limited hanger space or any drawers. Bathroom elderly but very clean, good size shower and water pressure toiletries very nice. Room warm even on some very cold wet nights no added heaters or blankets required. We had seen that some rooms had windows that where tinted and no view this was our room guess when built views weren’t a priority. That said it meant a good lie in on a morning. Have stayed in rooms were view was straight into office buildings or other rooms so not a disaster for us, could have upgraded but we didn’t want to. Excellent value, location, cleanliness and staff what else do you really need will definitely stay again

Thank you for sharing such a detailed and positive review! We're glad to hear that Hassan made your check-in experience great and that everything during your stay was excellent. It's wonderful that you found the room spacious, clean, and well-equipped with ample storage space. We're pleased that the warm and cozy atmosphere added to your comfort during those cold, wet nights. It's also great to know that despite the lack of a view, you enjoyed restful mornings and found the overall value, location, and cleanliness to meet your expectations. We appreciate your kind words about our staff and look forward to welcoming you back on your next stay. Sam - Senior Night Auditor

Room itself was fine but returning to our hotel after an evening out there was a power cut with no emergency lighting in the foyer at all. Staff were instructing people to head up a stairwell with no lights to access their rooms. When i went back to reception to ask why there was no emergency lighting in the emergency exit stair i was first offered a torch and then asked if i would like a drink (in the dark!). Feeling unsafe should there have been a fire or other emergency we checked out and took a $60 Uber home rather than take our chances here

I could not get any good quality sleep because of the poor soundproofing of the hotel. The hotel is located very close to a pub so it was quite noisy at night. I could also clearly hear children crying next door because the walls are thin. There is only one lift as the other lift is waiting for parts to repair. I was disappointed with the Superior 2 Queen bedroom - it's located on the top floor (level 5) so I would expect some nice window view but there are only small windows on the wall just below the ceiling. Also, I ordered continental breakfast (for an affordable AU$15) however most of the food were pre-packed such as cereal, milk and juice (I was expecting fresh milk and juice) although there are machines for making hot drinks and toasting breads. I am giving 2 stars because the reception staff are very friendly and courteous, and they lent me an umbrella to use on a rainy day.

A hotel that definitely needs renovation. Very old, stained and worn carpet, very thin glass, old and dusty smell, very uncomfortable room (king suite). Breakfast no comment... They give you a paper bag and you collect some juices and bags of corn flakes around. No baked goods, no yogurt, no eggs, no fruit. Very noisy street, so you have to choose between light (and noise) or rooms with virtually no windows.

What a disappointment! Booked through Qantas Hotels and would say that the photos used to describe the standard room (Queen bed) were misleading. The only window in the room was glazed to hide the terrible view outside so the room was dark and musty. Nothing like the picture on the website. I asked reception whether there were other standard rooms available perhaps with a slightly better outlook and was refused any chance to change. The walk down the corridor was along sticky carpet with a musty smell the whole way. The room was a good size. The television was placed over the small desk but to the extreme left of the bed so difficult to see while just sitting on the bed itself. Would not recommend and will definitely not be returning

Stayed for 3 nights recently. Booked 2 months in advance but could only get a room at the time through Expedia. I think because the Cricket was on and they were holding their rooms. Ended up paying double the normal rate (on average paid $270 a night!)

1. The first room I was checked into was the superior on 5th floor with 2 queen beds - but no air conditioning or air at all coming out of the ducted air conditioning vent.

2. I was moved into another room on 3rd floor with twin beds and was told house keeping would be up to zip the beds together. They never arrived so I pushed the twins together myself.

3. Later when I was taking a shower the shower door came off it's runner and fell in on me. I had to hold it up and maneuver it to get out of the shower.

I reported to reception and asked for a refund of the difference between the superior room and standard room. I was told that because I booked through Expedia they couldn't refund me. I was offered a complementary $15 self serve breakfast.

4. Fire alarm also went off and staff closed the hall way fire door but no announcement was made to guests on how to proceed - until people arrived in reception shouting.

There are plenty of other well run and maintained Hotels in the area of North Terrace do yourself a favour and book one of those (directly not through a wholesaler).

Firstly they couldn’t find our booking, then told car park is full and it would cost us $20 extra which was $32 then breakfast $15 each. Cereal, Juice, Toast, Coffe and a pastry in cardboard containers and wooden cutlery, not worth $15 each. Room was very small but nice hall ways were smelly not good for asthmatics one lift broken . Sorry won’t be recommending to my fiends.

Dear Escape18503482568, Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Grosvenor Hotel Adelaide. We saddened to read that on this occasion we did not meet full expectations, please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconveniences caused. Sadly, our hotel car park does have limited spaces and which are very small and on busy days when we have high occupancy, we do need to refer guests to our overflow car park which is roughly 100 meters down the road. The hotel underwent a name change and re-branding into an economy hotel as of the 10th February 2021. We have permanently closed our restaurant down indefinitely; this was not a decision made lightly. We are now only offering a grab & go style continental breakfast served in biodegradable crockery and cutlery every morning that continues to serve toast, pastries, cereal, fruit, juice, tea and coffee. Unfortunately, being a very old lift, the main motor generator now requires a complete rebuild. We have received word that the motor generator rebuilt has been completed and we can expect the part back early next week to be installed and fingers crossed the second lift is back up and working. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely, Courtney Assistant Front Office Manager
