I couldn't stand this hostel. They have kids that are living here so I moved into my 6 bed dorm and three girls had bicycles, they had constructed their own little apartment that I moved into which was really uncomfortable. The entire hostel just has really bad, clicky energy. The only plus was the comforter was super soft. The staff...

Great location close to everything which has pros and cons- can walk, take tram, or rail but it is very loud at night- both out in the city and inside the hotel. Staff was AWESOME and answered all our questions as it was our first week in Australia. Free breakfast was nice- pancakes, cereal, toast, and coffee/tea. My girlfriend and...

I stayed at Flinders Street Backpackers as a solo traveller and was in a 16 bed dorm for the duration of my stay. The hostel itself is pretty average and a bit tired, however it's a nice touch that there is a movie room with a huge screen and that breakfast is free every morning (pancakes/toast/cereal), if you're awake early...

DON'T GO. Came back from a trip to the great ocean road, found my bed was took over and all my stuff around the room. Politely asked explanations to the reception, they couldn't figure out what happened and moved me in another room. I was obviously pretty upset about it and asked for at least a free night (stayed for...

Large kitchen, free breakfast (pancakes/cereals) and tea/coffee, decent cinema room with a massive selection. Staff were friendly and efficient until you asked (not me personally but witnessed a few times) for anything that deviates from their set procedure then they become petulant and resistant (the two I witnessed and the three occasions). Rooms were nice enough, cleaned well and the...

Didn't know what to expect from Flinders Backpackers as I never really researched it, however I had two friends tell me to switch Hostels and try out Flinders (so obviously I did). Straight from the start the hostel was very welcoming, I met a lovely girl at the bottom of the lift and she was singing praises about the breakfast....

The staff is friendly, the location ideal, and my room was cleaned every day and that is about all I can praise this hostel for. The shared bathroom seems to only been cleaned once a day, which is way too little for a hostel that big, and they were always dirty. Cold water in the shower only, and the window...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
