The hotel had friendly staff with great service. I received a large room on a high floor and away from the lifts as well as a 12 pm check out. The hotel is slightly outdated but is perfectly located next to shopping, restaurants and public transport.

Was very disappointed staying hear as my friend and l felt very unsafe with the motel not seeming to have any security especially when anyone could just walk in the entrance freely and follow you into the lifts. Which we did experience and was frightening as he was clearly intoxicated in some way. It was very noisy and could hear...

Have enjoyed many stays at The Swanston over the last few years. The location is perfect for shopping, Chinatown and the Theatres. Trams are easily available to take you further afield and a taxi rank is situated outside. Customer Service is excellent. Reception quick and efficient and always with a smile. Staff in Dining/Bars friendly and welcoming and of course...

Stayed here November 2016 visiting from the UK to see family. Quite large busy hotel. Our room was very large although very dated, definitely in need of redecoration. The huge beds were not very comfortable a little too hard for me, but that is just my personal preference. We ate in the restaurant once on our last night and the...

Compared to any other Mercure hotel I have been to, this must be the ugliest one. The chewing gum sticking on the hotel carpet is the first thing you notice as you go to the elevators. Then the smell on the hallway, the impression of old and run down...The rooms are small, absolutely basic, with small windows that keep the...

I stay here for 2-3 nights at time once or twice a year when visiting Melbourne. The location is perfect for shopping and it's convenient to drop one load of shopping back at the hotel then continue, rather than lugging it around all day! I have often been able to check in early and/or been upgraded - on this occasion...

The hotel is dated and worn, the furniture in the room was surprisingly uncomfortable and we had the added annoyance of someone smoking pungeant ciggarettes with the smell making its way via the air conditioning on a number of days, evenings even more so despite reporting the problem a number of times at which point we were offered a free...

We stayed for 3 nights during the Boxing Day sales so this was the perfect spot in terms of location. The staff were fabulous and the rooms were very clean. The corridor carpets were shappy and let the place down. We opted for the breakfast package and it was OK but without being offensive didn't like the smell of some...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
