Great location if you are going to a live show at the east end theatres. Reasonable prices but not the flashiest place in town. Close to China Town and a host of other good restaurants and walking distance to all the shopaholic parts of town.

Everything was as good or better than expected. I would be happy to stay with you again as the location was perfect. - Close for business contacts and later entertainment. I enjoyed the breakfast even though it was a little on the cool side but I'll forgive that.

Cheap and cheerful. $5 room service charge is a bit much and I should have booked a larger room for a 3 night stay. All in all it's a reasonable hotel at a pretty good price and is well located for everything other than Taxi's who never seem to hang around.

We found the location very busy & not typical of Australia. The hotel is set up for business people and not really a cosy location for couples. The staff are all very nice and the breakfast has a very good choice

Rooms are dated and small. Very dusty. Tv cabinet was chipped all over which didn't give the room a nice feel. Shower was exteremly low and my partner whom is roughly 180cm didn't fit without his head touching the roof of the shower. I would have rather spent a little extra for a more prestigious hotel.

Grand Chancellor is in a prime location for theatre goers. This end of town is diverse and interesting and with in easy walking distance of the heart of Melbourne's CBD. The facilities are adequate, the staff friendly and helpful. What more could you want?

Stayed here for weekend Nov.'16. Although room was clean they could definetly do with a refurb. Bathrooms been redone so no problems there. Could hear heaps of outside noise so bit hard to get good night sleep. Staff friendly breakfast good but definetly NOT 5star...or even 4. Location makes it a good option if your not too fussy.

Aging hotel. In need of a refit. Wifi was very slow. Restaurant was very good. Very near to China Town which is a vibrant area. The facilities available are good, just it is quite old. I would still say a nice stay though. Thank you

Room stayed in, was dark. No space left in the cupboard, what with the ironing board etc occupying most of the space. Modern facilties attempted to be provided in room with old design, in haphazard manner.

The hotel and room were ok for a business trip. It was clean and the staff were professional. I would probably not stay there for leisure. The shower would not adjust properly and remained very hot. Overall an average experience.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
