My husband and I recently stayed here for 4 nights, primarily to attend the Adele concert but to also have a short break in Melbourne. What a great location this is - a 5 minute walk to shopping central, and a 10 minute walk to Etihad stadium. There is also tram stop very close, which is part of the free...

If i was personally paying l would not have paid close to $500 for this hotel. It has a grand appearance as you enter and frankly that's as good as it gets. l had to wait about 15 minutes to check in because the check in person was too busy cracking jokes with a group of about 12 tourists in...

We had a 2 night stay last week and chose this hotel as it was a nice walk to Etihad Stadium. Lovely room, great pool, lovely staff and our room was so quiet. We heard no noise from the construction next door and our room was really dark at night resulting in a fabulous sleep. We will definitely be back.

Recently stayed 3 nights, having booked King Club Room. As an IHG Ambassador we were given an upgrade to an amazing suite overlooking Collins St. The hotel is very stylish and elegant with that true Melbourne 'European feel'. The location is excellent - a quick walk from Southern Cross Station, Southbank and the casino, the east end theatre district and...

Listed as a 5* hotel it is disappointing in its decor. Small bathroom , no bath, tired carpets and stained hallway carpets. Brown and functional would be my judgement. It was very busy which might partly explain the $400+ per night cost but we have stayed in much nicer hotels at a lower cost. What was included in the cost...

After a week on the road around northern Victoria and southern New South Wales it was fantastic to arrive at the IHG Melbourne. As soon as you walk through the front doors the calming decor puts your mind at rest. The rooms are modern and comfortable. Loads of quality restaurants on South Bank within walking distance and the tram goes...

My daughter and I booked the last room available for the weekend and paid a premium price. It was our second visit to this InterCon hotel. As a member of the loyalty program we expected more. The call to tell us the room was available did not come, the room was not clean and you needed a cushion to sit...

Having stayed in all of Melbourne's 5 star hotels, I would say the Intercontinental falls way below the mark. Our 'King Deluxe' room was pretty disappointing, with doors that open onto a balcony overlooking the interior of the hotel that have been permanently fixed closed, giving the feeling of sleeping in a jail cell. The bathroom had no bath, only...

Dear Missmanners974, Thank you so much for sharing your review from your recent stay with us in Melbourne. I am so sorry to hear that you were disappointing with your recent stay. Loved our stay at the intercontinental on Friday evening. Everything was wonderful starting with the gentleman at the valet, through to quick and easy check in, where we were given a voucher for 2 glasses of champagne in the wine bar. When we have visited Melbourne we have stayed at a lot of very good hotels across the spectrum and our favourites would be split between the Park Hyatt, Langham and the Lyall in South Yarra. This trip I had actually booked a King Club Room at the Park Hyatt but had joined the Intercontinental Ambassador Club so cancelled the booking...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Celebrated as one of the world’s hottest and best new hotels by both Conde Nast Traveler and Wallpaper* magazines, InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto is a fascinating example of the city’s fusion of old and new. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto represents the resurrection of one of the city’s last remaining examples of 19th Century Victorian Gothic architecture into a timeless and inspiring luxury hotel. Its city centre location on Collins Street is at the heart of the laneways, attractions and experiences that give Melbourne its international appeal. Behind the Gothic façade is a sleek yet intimate hotel that is home to two very different bars – the Bluestone Wine Lounge and the Market Lane Bar – and a variety of dining establishments, including Alluvial Restaurant and Guy Grossi’s exciting new venture, Merchant. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto has also teamed up with Shannon Bennett, providing valet parking for his new Vue de monde restaurant on the 55th floor of the adjacent Rialto building. InterContinental Melbourne The Rialto’s warmth and exceptional service belies its size, with more than 250 guest rooms across two soaring wings, including a stunning collection of suites as well as the exclusive Club InterContinental lounge and facilities for premium guests. The hotel’s rooftop is also a destination itself, home to the kitchen’s own market garden and beehives, the Scandinavian-inspired swimming pool and the glass-encased fitness centre overlooking the Melbourne cityscape. Also available is the luxurious candle-lit East Day Spa offering east-meets-west treatments and therapies. Before guests arrive, they can take advantage of the concierges’ passion and Insider knowledge of the city. Chief Concierge, James Ridenour and his team are the key to authentic experiences of the real Melbourne and everything the city has to offer. ... more   less
