My wife and I recently spent a night at the Rydges in Melbourne. Although a somewhat older hotel we found it comfortable & convienient. It is right in the middle of the theartre district (we went to the Rocky Horror Show 100m away). The staff were friendly and very helpful. Parking is limited if you are driving your own vehicle.... Dear Greg G, Great to hear you enjoyed your night away for theatre, The Rocky Horror show has once again enjoyed a great, albeit short 4 week stint right nextdoor. Sounds like you really got to take advantage of our facilities and enjoyed the RISE breakfast concept. Hope to see you back again shortly to enjoy even more of the... More

Stayed in this hotel during an Australia guided tour - location is quite good as it is only about a 5-minute walk to Chinatown where there are abundance of restaurants (eg: Sharkfin House which is renown for its lobster noodles, but not cheap at SGD390 for just this particular dish), Breakfast was provided and the spread/quality was quite good (based... Have stayed here numerous times over theyears due to it's proximity to The Mall, theatre district and MCG. The staff are always helpful, and the hotel offers discount deals on meals, parking and late checkout through it's PGR program. The restaurant downstairs offers great breakfasts and other meals, and the pink bar is cool and fun!

We stayed at the Rydges recently as I was a bit disappointed with a few things. - Extremely poor lighting for makeup application (if any). Seeing as its in the theatre district and people were getting dressed up there was not enough lighting to see my makeup or apply it. - My pre ordered special items for us to celebrate... More

Dear TripperEmelia, It sounds like you had a mixed stay with us. It is always disappointing to hear we let ourselves down on certain aspects of your stay that are well within our control. I was only reviewing the level of crockery and cutlery during breakfast over the weekend during one of our busy rushes and completely agree with you,... More

Wow! What a great hotel. Another quality Rydges stay! Had a 1 bed apartment. It was HUGE! Check in was seem less. Only hiccup was parking. The onsite parking has an attendant who is employed by Wilsons who is less than friendly. The hotel should address this considering their facilitation. Breakfast was amazing and room service was just as good.... More

Stayed from Sunday the 5th until Tuesday 7th. Best place to stay right in the middle of everything. We had a slight problem with heater, not only did they change our room but they upgraded us. The wonderful two lads who worked on the Sunday night shift, love them dearly. Couldn't recommend this hotel enough, beautiful place!!!!!

Small room, very compact bathroom with a personal hate of the shower of the Bath. bathroom was a bit aged too. Was a business trip so ok but would not be my personal choice. I thought the tariff for the type of room was a bit steep to. Breakfast was a good selection.

Rydges on Exhibition St Melbourne is a great location, close to theatres and China Town, as well as many other restaurants. We stayed for 6 nights - the main thing we disliked was that there were no drawers or shelves for storing clothes - which meant we had to live out of a suitcase for a week; not fun.

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown
Locals know that Chinatown is the tried and true place to eat before hitting the nightclub scene. The place simply buzzes, and the well-preserved buildings exude a sense of Imperial China stemming from immigration over a century ago. In restaurant after restaurant on Little Bourke Street, you'll find delicious dishes such as sizzling honeyed prawns, and value for your money. Stately matrons oversee family kitchens serving up age-old recipes. The lighting may be unromantic, the patrons loud, and the service no-nonsense, but the food is sensational.
