Stayed here a few nights ago. Central location, good price but...entrance to the rooms is through the under-roof car park. Very clean but rock hard pillows and no comfy chair to sit on. Due to location, the street and cafe noises kept me awake till the early hours. Staff very pleasant and helpful.

This place is so basic and relaxed, don't come expecting high hotel standards and then complain. It's clean, bathroom looks recently renovated and we used Uber to get around the whole time. Had a hairdryer, ironing facilities and a mini kitchen with stove top. You can walk into the city for 15 mins, or get to the other side of...

I stayed here in October for 5 nights. I was very happy with the room. It was quite spacious and clean. It is not so modern but certainly adequate for the price. The kitchenette was adequate too. The staff were very helpful and friendly. There is free wifi which was fast enough and free car parking although very tight to...

We stayed for 5 nights in October on a combination work and tourism trip. The desk staff was very friendly and tried to assist with such matters as restaurant recs, car rentals, even dealing with computer disasters. The hotel is very clean, if a bit tired looking decor-wise. Our room had a kitchen area and balcony, surprisingly quiet. The hotel...

We booked this accommodation because it is within walking distance of the Exhibition Centre. The city is easily accessible and the Lodge is in the popular Lygon St Restaurant area. The Lodge has free parking and is equiped with basic cooking facilities. This would be a great base for a holiday in Melbourne , allowing for self catering or eating...

Booked through booking.com as a studio room. Bed type was not listed but there were photos of twin beds to I booked for my son and I. We checked in only to find the room allocated was a queen room and they said to change to a twin room would be another $60. I complained to them and booking.com and...

Great position, comfortable, clean, and reasonably priced. Free parking and wifi as well as the friendly staff, made our visit most enjoyable. Lygon Street is a mecca for those who love italian food, and you're on the right side of the city to visit the Queen Victoria market, the zoo and the Exhibition Building and the Museum.

Stayed for a week in a self-contained room - very convenient, with microwave, toaster, and a 2-plate stove as well as usual hotel appliances. Staff were uniformly helpful; free car parking a real bonus for Carlton. Only complaint was that the room doors slammed unless eased shut - the noise combined with a largish gap under the door made for...

This review is for our stay last June 2016. The front desk person Sash was very helpful. But the management handling the booking made a serious blunder with regards to charging the wrong credit card. I made an initial booking at booking.com under my credit card but then my friend offered to treat me for my birthday and so I...

Staying in Lygon Street

Neighbourhood Profile
Lygon Street
If you want real parmesan, cut from the block, grated over your pasta with a twist of style, this is the place. Until recently, this neighbourhood was home to the notorious ‘Carlton Crew,’ a pseudo mafia who started their day with a local espresso. They are gone, but the espresso still runs strong in this Little Italy which has something for everyone. Starched white tablecloths, candles, pizza the way they do it "back home" and maybe even a bit of amore. The number of gelato choices will leave you in a state of indecision and wide footpaths, big awnings and a sea of packed tables makes this al fresco dining experience a continental buzz. Even if you’re not eating, it’s worth the stroll just for the people-watching, which, of course, is an Italian tradition.
