Booked into here a week and instantly hated it after the first night. The place is about 1000 degrees, the staff were rude and the whole place was very dull. I was in an 8 bed dorm which had two sockets, obviously useless! Won't be staying here again no matter how cheap it is.

I stayed here 10 days and would have stayed longer but my plans changed. I really enjoyed it. It was fully booked on numerous nights but never felt overcrowded to me. I never had to wait to use any facilities, although the queue for pancakes in the morning could get pretty crazy! The bathrooms were kept super clean. The free... More

I stayed in the hostel arround 2 weeks. It is cheap enough because of the good location. There is a bar just located the ground floor, a little bit noisy but fun. The kitchen was crowded but you can make friends easily.

This place was a major disappointment. Staff not remotely interested in helping you during your stay, poor wifi connection, dirty rooms, crowded, loud and full of kids. If you are 18, single and only looking to party this may suffice. Otherwise, stay away.

Went to the hostel because Base backpackers messed up with my reservation, the city was full it was midnight and there were any other place for a reasonable price for me to sleep. The kitchen was a completely mess. The hall and most part of the hostel was stinking smoke (it suppose to be a no smoking place) and it... More

That's for those who are looking for meeting people and staying a long time. Quite good to have a big kitchen full of people to talk 24/7. Take care with your stuff in the fridge, good Idea to have lockers.

I was here for two nights before I was headed to Perth. I lived in a dorm with my sister, her boyfriend and my cousin plus people in the other bunks. The dorm I was in was located on the same floor as the reception. In the middle was the kitchen and dining facilities with the reception and the hallway... More

I found all the hostels in Melbourne to be well over-priced and not that great but i think this was the best one i found. Great location in the CBD really near to Aldi and the vic markets. The staff are really friendly and the bathrooms are very clean, i found the rooms to be really smelly . . .... More

I only stay for one night in a twin room. I liked to location, it was less then 10mins walk to the victoria market. Has an aldy supermarket just across the street and a few car rental providers nearby. 7-11 and bottle shops are also near by. They also give free breakfast of cereal, milk, bread with spread and tea... More

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.

“Maybe get a room on a higher level, might reduce sound noise while your trying to sleep. It might even help to get one that isn't facing onto the street. If you want a more private room, pay the extra $4 or whatever it was to get a two bed room, I kinda wish we had.”
