Our second stay, the free cbd trams just 80m away are a huge bonus and we went across town for dessert, taking advantage of this. The queen studios are clean, large enough for a couple with good storage, the microwave is a nice touch. The Eco aspects are done well but it is the service and amazing breakfasts that make...

I've stayed at this hotel twice now. Unfortunately, the stays were about a year apart and each was for only three nights. On both occasions, I've stayed in a one-bedroom apartment so can only comment on general matters, public areas and that type of room. The building itself first saw service a century or so ago, not as a hotel...

Stayed here for 5 nights and couldn't fault this hotel. We paid for breakfast in our rate which was good, you also could help yourself to coffee all day. The wifi was brilliant, something I've found to not always be the case when in Australian hotels, also, it was free, another thing that is not always the case! The staff...

From the time I phoned to book, through to check in, stay and departure, the staff were always professional, friendly and very helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable with everything you need for a short stay. The relaxation room was a great treat with the massage chairs and the 24/7 coffee station was perfect. The breakfast was delicious and...

After finding the Alto on trip advisor last year and a stay in October in the 1 bedroom spa apartment, I returned for a short two night stay in a studio queen apartment towards the back of the hotel. The room was clean, modern, comfortable with a comfortable soft top bed. Less noise than what you get in the spa...

We stayed 4 nights in a studio queen with breakfast incl, over the xmas break, level 2. The room was toward the back of the building hence away from any noise on Bourke Street. The rooms are clean modern and comfortable. The breakfast area is a great area to relax during the day and enjoy complimentary coffee / tea. The...

Thank heaven for Trip Advisor - if it wasn't for the high rating I would never have noticed The Alto. Now it's my preferred "return to" accommodation in Melbourne as it feels welcoming, safe and efficient. This building dates back to 1916, served for some time as "Unity Hall", and is on the Victorian Heritage Register. The refurbishment opened in...

I knew that the Alto was a great choice from the efficient check-in and genuine welcome on my arrival. It enjoys a handy location close to the Skybus airport bus terminal, tram and train lines, and Southbank, which is an easy stroll away. My room had a huge TV with a complete Foxtel menu, fast free WiFi and a comfortable...

Staying with my sisters for a family catch up, this hotel is really welcoming in a very central location, well priced, with friendly staff. The beds are really comfortable, the apartment was clean and inviting. Outside noise was not a problem and the chance to have open doors and fresh air was very welcome. We have no hesitation in recommending...

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
Full of discovery and delight, Melbourne’s laneways tease the imagination long after you’ve put your weary feet up to rest. They weave through the heart of the city: cafes, bars, restaurants and boutiques, throbbing with conversation and espresso coffee. You never quite know what you’ll find around the next corner: cobblestone alleys, old beer barrel hoists and even vats of simmering organic soup. There is the air of Berlin in the street art, a touch of Paris in the umbrella-shaded cafes and, reminiscent of Rome, eateries tucked away in the most unlikely of places. Perhaps you might want a break and cross the Yarra River to Southbank - walk along the promenade, bask in the sun at a waterside bar and decide whether to go to the nearby casino or book a ticket at the Melbourne theatre company.
