The Great Ponsonby is an experience. Extremely friendly, comfortable and individual rooms scattered around the garden and decorated with artworks that justify the name. Breakfast is an à la carte feast, with home-made breads and eggs every which way.

We loved this B&B. The host was charming, the staff was more than helpful and the location was within walking distance of several great restaurants and the waterfront. The breakfast and coffee were delicious. We would come back.

In a quiet setting but very close to the centre, the hotel is a lovely mix of great service, great staff and a very peaceful atmosphere. This not the city slickers hotel so if you want chrome and glitz this is not the place for you but if you want a calm and relaxing stay with good food and peaceful... More

We've come to love the Pons. It's much better value than the Downtown stacks you can amble down and explore, catch a bus back and relax in a large room with all facilities.Staff couldn't be more helpful.Food mmmmm. On that flight you know you will have the perfect place to recover.

Lovely staff and beautiful room, amazing breakfast! Highly recommended place! Only "negative" thing is the way to the centre, you might need a taxi. But Ponsonby is a lovely place with many cafés and restaurants and nice little shops.

Super warm welcoming of the host, very tidy and pretty rooms, carefully chosen amenities, incredible breakfast cooked by the great chef in fashionable Ponsonby. Stayed for the first time for my business trip but this B&B is working for it. Considering for revisit definitely.

We weren’t quite as head over heels about The Great Ponsonby Arthotel as some reviewers. It was our final of six inns over the course of our trip to New Zealand. Maybe we grew too accustomed to the airy, modern, uncluttered spaces of the majority of places that we stayed. The Great Ponsonby is eclectic, cozy, a bit cluttered. Our... More

Off street parking included as is the superb breakfast, super friendly staff. Rooms are small but well equiped ,great shower, nice outside patio fairly private, central heating. Great location. On quiet street walking distance to public transport, great shopping & restaurants etc. Lovely friendly helpful staff. Room complete with fresh fruit, tea, plunger coffee & biscuits. King bed very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely, scrambled eggs to die for. Best, the GreatPons allowed our companion dog to stay with us in one of their courtyard rooms.
