I stayed at this place for 2 nights in Auckland. The room was okay, very clean and tidy but it was a bit small. The staffs there were nice. I enjoyed the dinner there as well, tasty but the problem was the portpotion - way too much for me. The best thing is the location - easy to connect to... More

Visited there in 2013 so a must return in 2016. Lovely to sit back, have a few brewed in house beers and watch the locals and some tourists at leisure. Service can be stressed at times but understandable. Friendly staff who effectively looked after visitors as well as locals. Food plentiful and reasonable value. Tremendous old world charm effectively working... More

This little pub will always be defining of Auckland City Culture. First of all, it's in the shadow of the SkyTower overlooking a busy intersection. It also has wonderful tasty food. Do not miss out on their burger! Then the bartenders/staff have always been attentive and friendly. It's a great place to step away from the tourism and see how... More

Stayed two nights after arriving from the UK in March. Hotel was easy to find from the Airport (bus and v short walk). Great location in central Auckland so it was a great base for sightseeing during our short stay - a two minute walk from the Skytower. The hotel reception is also the pub's bar, and check in was... We had dinner here and were able to eat on the balcony. It was a lovely evening and we loved the food. The men had a pot of mussels each and said they were excellent. I had a salad that was delicious and the other party had a risotto dish that she loved. The beer was cold and good. Would... More

I was debating staying in a hostel or getting a budget hotel and settled on this hotel. I'm very glad I made that decision. The hotel is very clean and comfortable and well worth the expense. The restraunt on site is great. The location is perfect. I have been able to walk anywhere I need to in the city. A... More

We were walking past early Friday evening and it sounded lively inside, so called in. Clearly a lot of locals were celebrating the end of the working week with a few beers. We enjoyed the lively but friendly atmosphere and sampled several of the craft beers and ciders – some really good examples of both! After a lot of walking... More

This is an old pub/hotel with great character and right in the centre of town. Don't expect big rooms, they certainly are not. But our room was clean and more than adequate for a few days. I was worried about the noise from the pub (especially as we were there on St Patricks day) but the fire door between pub... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
1898 was the birth of the Shakespeare Hotel and ever since then it has been serving New Zealanders and travelers from around the globe with warm hospitality and wonderful flavours in food being New Zealand's first Brewpub, with our own crafted beer, handcrafted from one of New Zealand's award winning Brewers and a mix of local NZ beers. The Location of the Hotel is excellent bang in the middle of Auckland City so close to all transport with buses, ferrys etc within a few hundred meters. The accommodation consists of 10 rooms which are basic with an en-suite and the beds are comfortable. This is not your typical boring hotel. The Shakespeare oozes character and if you are afraid of walking up a few stairs then probably not the place to stay. Each room is different and the rooms on the top floor are more modern than the lower floor. The Terrace Restaurant offers a great mix of cuisine, live music out on the al fresco dining deck overlooking the city every Friday. We are not 5 star in terms of accommodation but we are definitely 5 stars in a good quality Kiwi experience...we look forward to having you as our guests.... ... more   less
