Yes a great location with fantastic views though not all the cabins have good views. The rooms are dated but more than adequate being clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and we had an enjoyable stay.

The motel is one of very few on the East Cape road and is in an amazing location looking out over the bay. The rooms are perfectly adequate for a short stop over and the restaurant is also good. Be aware that the restaurant is only open at set times 6-8 I think and there is nowhere else to eat!The...

The motel is modest, with very clean rooms. The location is amazing. It sits on top of a bluff overlooking a beautiful bay. There is a path to walk (steeply) down to an amazing, sandy beach. They serve dinner in the restaurant. The food, like the place, was simple but very good. Don't miss the Glow Worm Grotto - it...

We found Hicks Bay Motel a great place to stay. Situated on the hill surrounded by native trees with a great view of the bay,the country atmosphere took us away from the city life. We found the owners an awesome couple and their staff very friendly and helpful. Our unit was clean and comfortable and we enjoyed the cleanliness of...

First impressions are of old buildings looking very dated. But they are well painted and maintained, and the bedding & furnishings were fresh and new looking. There is no balcony, but the view of the bay from the room is superb. The ensuite toilet and shower is very basic but clean and working OK. The evening meal and breakfast were...

Despite its needing a complete rebuild, we loved it! Quirky, charming and dated, the place reminded us of an old British holiday camp - 'hi-di-hi'! We were doing a road trip along the North Island's Pacific Coast and Hicks Bay is one of very few stopping points between Whakatane and Gisborne, so the motel has a pretty captive market. We...

6th accommodation of 19. Lovely location with great views. We arrived just in time to eat in the restaurant. Good job as we hadn't seen anywhere else to eat. We had a lovely meal. The rooms are a little dated but they were clean. Didn't like the look of the shower, only there one night so chose not to use...

We stayed here for 5 nights between Christmas and New Year. We are a family of 10 and we had 2 self contained one bedroom units and a bunk room. The accomodation was great for a large family. We all had dinner together in one of the units using the day beds as seating with the dining table extended. The...

My husband and I stayed here with our three children. The rooms were clean and exactly what we needed. The little kitchenette was excellent for making our own breakfast, the kids had a great swim in the pool and we enjoyed the meals in the dining room in the evenings. This is not a 5 star city hotel, nor does...
