Detailed Reviews
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your amazing venue, very thoughtfully positioned and had every aspect covered, if it be the very clean and well maintained swimming pool, access to free bike hire and or the gym. The lovely rest areas under shelter were also amazing. My son's favorite though was the basket ball hoop and ball that was available. The Food at the Marvals restaurant was amazing and the service was outstanding, we had a mix up at booking when we booked for the dinner package it turns out we were not booked into the restaurant and with a child waiting till 8pm for dinner was not ideal however the staff at the restaurant were amazing and were able to fit us in sooner the food and atmosphere was totally worth the wait, it was so nice to see the staff enjoying themselves too when they were not busy they were chatting and laughing with each other which means they love there job and it was so good to see staff enjoying themselves whilst at work, it was a packed night and your staff were under no visible pressure or stress - that is what I pay for and worth every cent.
The only suggestion I would make is fresh water to be available in bottles from the fridge along with the milk as personally I don't like taking water to drink from the bathroom even to fill the jug. So one large bottle of water per fridge would be fantastic.
The items in the bathroom were so thoughtful and covered any emergency that anyone could need.
Perhaps also join up with the electric scooter hire to have some placed at your venue for people to hire at there will as we were lucky enough to have 1 outside that we hired however if we had a couple that would of been fantastic as the bikes had a close off time understandably and we were unable to enjoy them when we felt like going so teaming up with the electric scooter company to have some available around your location may have been a great way to involve the community businesses too. Overall we loved our experience and will be back. Thank you so much for having us.

We stayed here with a very large group. On arrival we were handed an envelope with our room key, wifi info and the names and room numbers of everyone in the group. It took less than 10 minutes for us all to be checked in. Very professional. The rooms were clean, the beds comfy and the toiletries very nice. On the first floor overlooking the pool was a bit noisy during the afternoon, but not at night. the bar staff coped well. And the buffet dinner with seafood, salads, roast meat and a huge selection of desserts was the best quality and value for money that I've seen in a long time. This place does everything right.

Flung by my employer to New Plymouth for a week, haven't been to the Devon in a few years.
Greeted at check in by one of the most pleasant, polite staff members I've ever been served by. Big smiles, lovely manners, well presented.
She was even kind enough to check my room location would be OK as I am working night shifts and they wanted to ensure I would get adequate sleep during the day. Well impressed!
Room is lovely, tidy and clean. Bathroom must be recently renovated and it is beautiful, fantastic shower. Bed is like sleeping on a cloud.
Every time I call for room service I encounter yet another polite staff member who are always helpful and the food arrives quickly and hot, the drinks arrive still cold.
Really cannot give one negative comment!

The on-line booking was easy. The price for the quality and size of the room (and King sized bed!) was very competitive. Reception was friendly and efficient and the room was beautifully appointed with a lot of nice touches like cosmetics in the bathroom. Bed linen was white and crisp. A nice feature was the heated swimming pool in the grounds and some lovely sculptures. The only thing that needs an update is the (spa) bath and shower linings. We find spa baths can house "nasties" in the pump and pipes hence never use them.
The Marbles buffet was obviously popular as it was packed for the night. The selection of food was a bit overwhelming but obviously catered for all tastes. Considering the amount of food made in bulk everything was fresh and tasty.
Altogether a stop-over worth a visit.

The rooms are really clean and spacious, however my room over looked the dining area, so it was advisable to keep the blinds down. Within two hours a party of juveniles arrived and took rooms on the same floor as me. I had to escape with the aid of reception and find another room., which was achieved.
With the hot weather the pool was really good, except you might have to flee, if a party of children turn up and ignore the no jumping in the pool rules.
On my second night I thought it a good idea to utilise the bar and restaurant (called Marbles). Being a family friendly restaurant I waited in the bar until it had thinned out.
The bar has local beer and I tried two types. The bar tender was a little hazy on the where abouts of the The Sisters Brewery, which was barely a 20 minute walk from the hotel. He believed it was on the out skirts of New Plymouth! He also claimed that a beer from Wellington was locally brewed!
When I finally got a table in the restaurant I was given a seat right by where they were cleaning up and the spray of disinfectant kept wafting over. Not sure why I was given this seat, as the place was near empty. When I chose to use a bowl instead of a plate for the buffet one of the waitresses could not understand why and asked another waitress, who exclaimed in a loud voice, HE IS DRUNK.
I did quite enjoy the buffet range on offer and there was variety.
I returned in the morning for the breakfast and the atmosphere was more relaxed and the food on offer just as good. Compliments to the Chef

Had heard good things about this hotel. Warm, friendly welcome from helpful staff. However, found room to be well appointed and modern but small, back room with a very unpleasant odor which came and went - couldn't decide if damp or something else. Pipes gurgle when shower in use.
Internet very slow if you're planning to work; would check that out before booking.

Thanks for taking the trouble to post a review. Ouch! It's great to get lots and lots of 5 star reviews, but if we have one unhappy guest, we're not happy! We'd love the opportunity to restore your faith (and expectations) in our hotel if you are back in Taranaki. Kind regards, Peter Tennent

Having a great stay 4 nights in early March this year we returned again for another 4 nights and The Devon again did not disappoint. From the front desk where the staff were very accomodating and helpful to the cleaners and bar staff we were well looked after. The beds were comfy, rooms clean and spacious, warm and of high quality. The Devon grounds and space to move around on a rainy day make this stay enjoyable relaxing and one to remember. Top quality here.

Where do I start, Let’s start with Room 873. I stayed here for 3 sleepless nights. The rooms air conditioning was dirty and when turned on, it stunk the room out. I couldn’t use it. Every time the washing or dryer below room 873 is operating, this room can feel it. 3am I was woken to my room shaking and vibrating, I thought it was an earthquake. I heard my neighbours talk extremely loud every night as the walls are not sound proof and boy i was so tired every day. It was piss pour. Early in the morning, I had the Shower running when it was turned off and the toilet was blocked from the previous guest as they put wet wipes down. I was so mad as I didn’t get to have a toilet except in my mum and dads room which was at the opposite end of the hotel or the public restroom. I also had some lights working and others broken and Not working at all. It was a hell of an experience. I rang the customer service and had a maintenance guy come to my room at 5am. He said I should get a full refund and even a room change but I ended up with a Apology card and a little food platter as the hotel was full. The room it self is very small and no room for luggage. Parking is very bad and has limited space as the restaurant uses most of it. I didn’t use the swimming pool or spa. The restaurant was ok and the only part I liked from this hotel was the bed. I highly recommend not coming here unless your desperate. It’s 4 stars but I’ll give it a half star.

Greetings Freedom#, Ouch! I'm so sorry. We may have thousands and thousands of happy guests, but one unhappy guest is one too many. We are proud to have the region's highest independent rating, and be the region's most popular hotel, but again - one unhappy guest is one too many. My apologies! I will follow up with our team. Kind regards, Peter Tennent

We stayed here unexpectedly in 2 rooms one on the road side and one on the couryard side of the hotel and the amazing staff could not have been more accommodating given our situation. From the moment we arrived everything was made easy. The rooms are clean and tidy the wifi is fast and the pool and spa are a great place to unwind. If you are a light sleeper I would request a room on the courtyard side as apposed to the road side as it is on a main road but this did not bother me. We ate in the buffet restaurant once and I wouldnt return as I would prefer a quieter a la carte experience where our drinks order is remembered. Maybe this is something that could be added in the future somewhere else in the hotel.

Superb front desk and rooms with comfortable beds. The pool area was well used and a lot of kids attending a birthday party made for a family atmosphere. Breakfast traditional affair with buffet.
Only criticism is the rooms face into a central courtyard so keep the blinds closed and if you have windows open you will pick up some noise from other rooms but nothing that bothered me.
