Me and my friends stayed in a triple share room during the time we visited in Taupo. The room was neat and tidy. However the central heater seem like not really working well as the room temperature at night was quite cold. The best part i liked about this BBH was their shower room as the water preasure was good... More

Was only planning on staying a few nights but ended up staying much longer at Rainbow lodge! You've got everything you need here and just a few minutes walk to town centre. The staff is awesome and will do everything they can to make sure you have a great time in Taupo. It is not the most modern hostel I've... More

It's a very good backpacker. Clean rooms and surprisingly very comfortable bed (almost as good as my own bed at home and I never say this about any backpackers) Central heating kept the rooms at decent temperature. Spacious kitchen with spices provided. Showers are also very clean and conveniently designed to change without getting your clothes wet. Free parking. Very... More

Really sorry to hear about your experience we were not aware of the problem until a guest brought it to our attention and we rectified it. We have underfloor heating, double glazing and from the reviews you can see we do have hot showers and pride ourselves on our warm hostel but as discovered there was a plumbing issue we... More

A great purpose built hostel. A 20 minute walk from the bus stop but that seems to be the norm in Taupo. Clean rooms with space for belongings. We felt secure in this hostel as the doors locked once closed. The kitchen and lounge were also spacious and clean. Welcoming and informative staff and free tea and coffee available from... More

One of my favourite hostels so far in NZ. Seemed very clean, the kitchen had loads of spices and things to cook with. Pro: everyone (staff/guests) was friendly and lots of things going on. Also free tea & coffee. Con: having to walk outside to get to the kitchen/bathrooms, but that's not all the rooms. Some dorms are inside. Overall... More

Hi and welcome to Taupo's original and favourite backpackers. Rainbow lodge was purpose built and designed for the needs of travellers by Mark Dumble (fishing expert??) and Sue Mrozinski themselves seasoned travellers. They had spent several years on the world's highways and by-ways and having accommodation experiences that are sometimes described as "Character Building" they settled in Taupo famous for its Rainbow Trout and beautiful scenery.
