What a quaint, beautiful hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful, even the bar tender at the end of his shift at midnight. Loved the massive claw foot bath and wooden decor makes you feel warm invited. Lift a very cool authentic touch.

For the positives first: located in a quiet nook at the heart of the city and friendly staff - if and when you see them. It is really a dark, not well-lighted hotel and the antiquity of the building lends it a bit eeriely quiet when you don't see anyone. I was so unfortunate to be in a room at...

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel. I'm sorry you found the hotel a little spooky at night. Due to our small size we cannot have staff available for 24 hours a day. On Fridays we have live music in our downstairs bar but it finishes at 8pm so as not to disturb our guests. Two of...

I really liked my room and the hotel has has very few rooms, really retro, original features, classic, however beware no breakfasts or laundry serves on weekend days, but Mon to Fri a great cafe available and laundry

The first night we stayed there had one of Wellington biggest Earthquakes. They sure know how to build these old buildings. Other than the lamps falling off the side table and some paint chips coming off in the passage way,in this old building I felt safe. We were in the top story. The night manager Sam was calm and knew...

Thank you for your lovely review. I am so glad everyone was safe during the earthquake. It must of been terrifying. Sam did an outstanding job that night. She put the guests well being ahead of her own. She is a survivor of the Christchurch quake and that showed on Monday morning. A lot of questions are now being asked...

Stopped in to have a 'wee dram' and it was a pleasure to discover such a very cool Victorian gem right in the heart of our capital, whilst it is a little tired it is clearly well loved and care worn. Stayed for a couple of hours and it was nice to watch the world pass by, highly recommended if...

All the Wellington hotel room prices skyrocket when WOW is on but thankfully we found the Wellesley, which provided a place to rest our heads after the show on Sat night. The only downside was the onsite café, bar etc was closed, but as it is close to the wharf area this wasn't a problem. The rooms are large with...

Thank you for your review. Yes we do have a poor TV service unfortunately. As we are a category A heritage building it is extremely difficult for us to run the fibre cable needed to have digital sky in each room. We are currently getting fibre to the hotel and we hope to be able to offer an internet based...

In Wellington for WOW with my best friend for a girls weekend. Just had the most delicious dinner in the restaurant on site. Staff on reception and also in the dining room delightful, friendly and helpful. The hotel exudes old world charm. Some areas a little tired but none of that takes from everything else. Will definitely be back. Would...

Stayed four nights with my partner on a "getaway" ... in one of the premium rooms. Pluses - massive bathtub (my gal is an addict); we both prefer to stay away from the clinical mass-product hotels; very central to CBD and waterfront; bar with open fire is great for an after-work stop-off Minuses - no bar or breakfast on weekends...

Thank you for taking the time to review the hotel, all feedback is appreciated. Sadly as we are in the heart of the CBD we cannot get the weekends going for us in the cafe, we have tried many different options but nothing has worked. As you say there are many other options around us. We are working our way...

We stayed just the one night having come from Auckland by train and booked on the Interislander ferry the next morning, so the Wellesley was in a great location. Our room was huge and so was the bathroom and all decorated in keeping with the heritage of the building. We dined in their restaurant, Cafe 1815, and had a very...

We stayed at the Wellesley for two reasons-relatively inexpensive at $140.00 NZD for two and conveniently located to the central city and the Bluebridge ferry. We had driven down from Auckland with a brand new car and took the risk on parking it across the road from the hotel. We paid for 3 hours parking which did not need replenishing...
