We were welcomed by the host, Nancy. She let my brother and I each have our own room since no one else was staying there that night, and she had lots of suggestions for where to eat. Beaconstone is very committed to sustainability. I wish we could have stayed longer, the property was beautiful. There is also a full kitchen...

We were the first guests of 2016/ 2017 season...Ive been before so i knew it was superb in every respect. We stayed 2 nights to really explore the local area. Walk up the Nile River walkway. Clamber over the rocks at Charleston, with the surf pounding in. The lodge is very comfortable with all the cooking facilities you could need....

Beaconstone is a great find for anyone looking to unplug from daily life. No wifi but all the comforts of a typical lodge. We only stayed one night, but it was easily one of our favourite places we've ever been. Grae was welcoming, funny, and we enjoyed chatting with him. Everything at Beaconstone is eco-friendly including the super comfortable mattresses....

Really loved the experience at Beaconstone. The hosts were lovely and were always available to answer questions. They have gone to lengths to make the lodge eco friendly, enabling people to lessen their carbon footprint as they travel NZ. They also have a veggie garden from which I took some lettuce that was delicious and perfectly free! I also enjoyed...

This is another small and fine hostel. A handful of double rooms share a spacious kitchen/lounge area, plus there's a specially designed toilet and shower facility nearby (and a in-house bathroom for night time use). You get there from the main SH6 on a short and well maintained gravel road with lots of parking just in front of the house....

This was my first expeience staying at an alternative eco lodge. I only stayed for 1 night but never wanted to leave. The eco lodge used solar power, solar hot water, wool insulation, natural fibre mattress, organic garden, compositing toilets etc. It was an amazing experience!! I paid the same price I would've staying at a backpackers. It was sooo...

The most unforgettable place we have stayed so far for all the right reasons. Interesting and charming hosts are very helpful in every way . Plenty of accommodation and good facilities in the main lodge and absolutely delightful cabins separate from the house, good kitchen and atmosphere very conducive to conversation between people staying there. Some composting toilets and showers...

Traversing through an unmade road we saw the wooden placard denoting the Eco lodge. Rain was bucketing down but with each swipe of our window wipers our excitement grew... Our car made a left hand turn and we were greeted by a beautiful wooden house. It was surrounded by well manicured flora and ample parking space. After unpacking in our...

Best value in New Zealand. Cozy cabin with stained glass panel in door, interesting path through forest to river, and great sociable host. Very nice kitchen in lodge. Self-sufficient off-the-grid but easy to find.

Highly recommended by friends who discovered the lodge years ago we stopped for a night on our way from Franz Josef Glacier to Abel Tasman NP. Wish we'd have had more time to enjoy this peaceful spot. We were warmly welcomed by Grae who offered some salad&veggies from their garden so we had a delicious dinner - best Ruccola we...
