We stayed at Tranquil Lodge for three nights at the end of February. The place itself is very clean and the owner, Shona, is so lovely! She was happy to help with anything, even helped us to get a free lift to the airport with some girls that were staying there - she really went above and beyond! This place...

Stayed here for 2 nights with my girlfriend, very friendly, welcoming owners who were very helpful. Nice homely place, more like a guest house with a living area, kitchen and tv room. The bedroom (5 bed dorm) was comfortable but only downside was one plug for charging between 5 people... (easily solved with an extension lead) other than that no...

Nice place a 20 minute walk from Christchurch CBD. The owner Shona is very friendly and even bakes guests cake on occasions. The double room stayed in was a good size, and the communal kitchen was well stocked. There was also significant communal space including a dining room, TV room and outside area.

We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay here. A great location to use as a base to explore Christchurch with a handy little shopping area within a ten minute walk. The hosts are nice and informative. Would stay here again.

Popped by en route from Queenstown to the north island. Least pricey hostel in the area from what I saw. We were greeted by one of the lovely owners who checked us in. The building is a lot bigger than it looks upon first glance. Showers and toilets are nice and clean. Kitchen is well stocked as well. My only...

We were well accomodated for our late arrival and got to a room with the heater already on. The lodge is in a suburban street, perfect for a quiet night with jet lag. Facilities efficient and clean. Corridors do seem to be used as store rooms though.

It was the second place I've stayed in Christchurch (and in New-Zealand), we went there because it was the cheapest and we stayed more than 2 months because it felt like home! Shiona, the manager, is more than lovely, she will make you as comfortable as she can. I had my 30th birthday there, I was sad to get that...

The manager is indeed very friendly. However the hostel is totally a mess. It seems that life stopped 50 years ago for them. Painting is falling off the walls, bed are noisy and not confortable. Bathrooms are scary. No free wifi.

The best thing about this hostel is the manager who goes out of her way to make sure you're loving life. She always made sure I had a bed even when I forgot to book in advance, and she even, on occasions, bakes cakes for the guests. The kindest little Scottish woman I ever did meet. The hostel is clean and...
