We were rather late in booking somewhere to stay in Christchurch. Since the earthquake it seems very short on hotels. Cherry Tree Lodge is a motel in the suburbs with about a dozen units. Ours was pretty standard New Zealand accommodation, with a bedroom, bathroom and a small kitchenette. Perfectly acceptable for the low price, but hardly stylish or with...

Rooms are dirty and old. Have to dry hair in kitchen as no power points near any mirrors. No light over mirror in bathroom. Bed has springs poking through. Just had to go and buy toilet paper after pressing on owners doorbell for 15 minutes and no answer when you phone Reception. NOISY. Room hasn't been vacuumed for the past...

Whilst on a motorcycling winter getaway I found myself in need of a room. Since the earthquakes in Christchurch accommodation of most types has been in shorter supply (especially quality well priced accommodation). I rode pas Cherry Tree Lodge and noticed they had a vacancy - I was pleasantly surprised that the proprietor was willing to negotiate a tariff and...

I booked this motel earlier in the day direct with them and advised them that we would be arriving late 11pm after a long journey from north island. On arrival the reception area smelled like a chinese takeaway. I paid cash which went into his pocket quicker than a rocket. We were told where the room was and hoping that...

Absolutely terrible. -7 outside and equally as cold in the room. Staff were so so rude. Dirty room, dusty old blind, old bedding. Turned up and the place was just about empty no surprise to me. Disgusting. Would not recommend to anyone. If you want a dirty cold room with rude staff and limited English you will get It here....

Basic room, upstairs which an effort for my 89 yo Mum. There was no indication of double level when booking. Bedding looks old and soft(and it was). Curtains resembled a spiders web with a fake flower. Motel was on a main road (Riccarton Rd). It had been a warm day, so the only way to catch the breeze was to...

After booking a room via their web site, emailing them, ringing twice to confirm our booking, we arrived at 8.30pm on a Tuesday night to find there was no booking. No offer was made to try and find us accommodation, and with 30,000 people in Christchurch for Kapa Haka we were not very happy to be out on the streets...

This is a basic- level motel, handily sited for Hagley Park and the railway. Our room was small with a bed-sit arrangement ie there was no separate bedroom. This did not bother us but may not suit everyone. It was clean but desperately in need of a makeover- the decor is tired and very drab. We felt it was overpriced...
