WE liked this hotel, but have some reservations. We, loved how it had been converted and the the outside music bar scene was very enjoyable. Staff was very responsive. My biggest bugaboo was the soft beds. I have back problems and need a firm bed. The bed was so soft I had to pull it off the springs and lay...

This hotel is very nice, the suites are nice and have washer and dryers which come in handy when you are trying to pack light. The but comes in through no fault of their own but rather Mother Nature, earthquakes to be exact. There is major construction all around the area which is not conducive to sleeping in and I...

Loved the old building and decor. And the washer and dryer in our room. And location within walking distance of many attractions. We had a corner two level suite which at first seemed great but all the space was on the lower floor with the kitchen/ dining and living room while the upstairs loft with the bed and bathroom were...

Very central location right next to the Cathedral (sadly still in ruins...very sad they cant sort this out) and easy access to everything. Hotel is in a lovely period building with high ceilings and cool original features. Reception is small but staff are friendly and check-in is easy. Our room (2) was a two level room with entry on the...

We would thoroughly recommend this hotel. The staff were pleasant, helpful and polite. The suites are spacious, clean and very comfortable. There is no air conditioning but our first suite had a ceiling fan and when we returned at the end of our holiday our room didn't have a ceiling fan but the hotel readily supplied a floor standing fan...

We were very impressed by the architecture of the building, the foyer and the grand hallways. We got to our room (26) and both went wow. The combination of beautiful high ceilings and tasteful décor were enough but to add the practicality of a full kitchen as well as laundry facilities was really an unexpected addition. We also found the...

This is a very grand hotel whose spacious rooms were much nicer than we expected, with small kitchens and laundry (washer/dryer). The hallways have beautiful high ceilings, and we had a wonderful stay here. The hotel restaurant was quite good, as well, and pre-paying for breakfast was a good deal.

Great place to stay in Christchurch as central with comfortable, spacious suites. A bit noisy as construction/demolition stars early but small price to pay for a wonderful city recovering from the devastating earthquakes. Friendly and helpful staff. Dont miss the OGB bar. Great staff and live music. Looking forward to returning in the future to see the "new" Christchurch.

Amazing accommodations. Suite has small kitchen, laundry, in-room safe, comfortable beds and bedding. Beautiful architecture, high ceilings, etc. The staff were exceptional The OBG pub/bar excellent. Downside during my visit was the noise in the morning from machines taking buildings down. The plus is that they are taking those buildings down because they are an eyesore (from the earthquake) to...

Lovely historic hotel which is in a fantastic location. Comfortable rooms, great facilities and the staff are very attentive. The reason I haven't given them a 5 star is because the bathroom was a bit tired and the shower trap was completely blocked with thick hair, that's just not acceptable in this level of hotel. But I would go back...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Christchurch is a long way from the Mediterranean - nevertheless, the opulence of an Italian High Renaissance Palazzo awaits you at the Heritage Christchurch. Designed by Joseph Clark Maddison and opened in 1913, the hotel is listed as a category one building on the Historic Places Trust Register, reflecting its status as a building of national significance. The hotel's grand design is fitting: after all, Christchurch is regarded as the Garden City, and is regarded internationally for its culture and refinement. ... more   less
