My husband and I spent 3 weeks travelling around the South Island and were looking for somewhere comfortable, clean and relaxing. Viv was lovely and easy to chat with about the history of Christchurch and gave lots of advice on places to visit whilst in Christchurch. The house was very clean, the bathroom and bedroom were immaculate. The food was great too, Viv was a great cook. The reception areas were very cosy, with a sitting room, breakfast area and an outdoor area too. It was like a home from home.

Greeting us at the front door like long lost friends, we were welcomed into Vivienne's home after our long drive, beautifully. The house was immaculate, and nothing was too much trouble for her (even trying to hunt down a lemon for a much needed gin and tonic!). Our bedroom was bright and comfortable, ensuring a wonderful night's sleep, ready for our delicious breakfast the next morning. Vivienne's home is close to the CBD, in a beautiful leafy suburb. We could walk to the local restaurants (if it hadn't been raining) which would be a lovely thing to do on a balmy summers night. Thank you, Vivienne, for making our stay so special. We know where we'll be staying next time we are in town...

This was the first time I had stayed at 40 Thornycroft. Vivienne was a fantastic host. I felt like I stayed with a family friend. Very welcomed and comfortable. The room and bathrooms were immaculate and clean. It was a very cold night but the house was warm and comfortable and quiet. Great sleep. I would easily recommend. Oh and the breakfast was awesome. Fresh fruit salad and muesli. Thanks Viv!

We spent only one night at Vivienne's delightful B&B (start of a touring holiday), but would thoroughly recommend this as a base for a longer stay in Christchurch. Excellent facilities, beautifully cooked breakfast, and lovely environment with well-chosen art works. Vivienne was a charming host - helpful and most interesting to talk to. Situated in a beautiful area of Christchurch; accessible to many amenities.

Vivienne welcomed us warmly as we arrived in the early hours of the morning after a much delayed midnight flight into Christchurch. We slept like logs in the most comfortable bed and woke to a yummy breakfast. I recommend Thornycroft B&B because Vivienne reflects the warmth of character and friendliness that we experienced all across this earthquake-battered, recovering still beautiful city. H Baird

We stayed 2 nights at Christchurch for New Year and had a great time! Vivienne is such a charming host and made us feel like home. We spend very nice moments to chat with her and exchange about our experience, where we came from and family trees. Vivienne knows a lot about local history, specially the Akaroa and French immigrants. The room was great, and the place is very quiet and not too far from the city center (but far enough to feel more secure from earthquakes). We had delicious breakfasts in the morning before going to visit places around. Vivienne knows well Akaroa, so she gave us hints about the history and where to go. If you go to Christichurch this is definitively the place to stay and feel like home! Thank you Vivienne!

To anyone visiting Christchurch and would like to be pampered Vivienne has a lovely Bed & Breakfast. Beds are very comfortable. Breakfast is wonderful her cooked meals presentation etc are fantastic and very tastie but so is her continental breakfast with homemade museli and fresh fruit and yogart. I have stayed with Viv several times now and look forward to my return visit to her home. As a business person this Bed and Breakfast is ideal and I would recommend anyone to stay.

As we were planning our trip to New Zealand we wanted to stay in Christchurch a little longer this time to experience the city. So we wanted a place not too far from the centre, but safe in regards to earthquakes and maybe not too far away from the airport. We choose B&Bs when we think we can profit from the hosts informations in regards of activities and dining out and to better understand the places we travel to. Vivenne's place was the perfect match to that as she made our stay very pleasant from the beginning. The location is good, some restaurants and a supermarket with a good bakery and a pharmacy are nearby. The house itself is very quiet with a beautiful terrace on which I could have spent a lot more time enjoying the sunshine. The room was spacious and tidy. The house

We had the pleasure of staying two nights with Vivienne and Ruby (her cat) during a recent trip to Christchurch for our daughters Graduation. Vivienne is the perfect host, sharing her home with complete strangers and making us feel like part of the family - nothing was too much trouble. Our room was spacious and private. Each morning we were welcomed down stairs and treated to a homemade breakfast of delicious fresh fruit, muesli and yoghurt etc along with a traditional kiwi breakfast cooked to a standard you'd find in a 5 star hotel - hubby felt very spoiled. We very much appreciated her assistance in making reservations for dining out especially being Graduation week, and her knowledge of places to go in the city was very helpful for our visit to see first hand the

We stayed only one night but wished we had longer at 40 Thormeycroft St B&B. A quiet, comfortable, private bedroom with perfect, crisp bedlinen and an en suite with top quality bath products and everything you could possibly wish for, provides perfect comfort in an elegant modern spacious house with a private, tranquil courtyard garden where our breakfast was served. Viv, a delightful Canterbury belle whose French ancestors were among the region's earliest settlers, is the perfect hostess - unobtrusive but there when you need a glass of wine or some local history or advice on what to see and how to get there. And the breakfast was fabulous - delicious homemade muesli and fresh seasonal fruit and great coffee! We could not have been made more comfortanle or felt more welcome.
