We have stayed at the Alcala many times over the past 23 years and Gary and his team have always been extremely helpful and will go the extra mile. This time was no exception. The rooms are very spacious especially the family units. This is a great place to stay if the kids are at uni. It is a 10...

As we waited at reception for someone to appear the musty smell in there was really off putting, however when the man eventually appeared and showed us to our room that was even worse, there was a terrible smell of cooking, holes in the carpet and the furniture was in need of a major upgrade. the sheets on the bed...

The motel is located on a main road leading north out of the city and is thus easy to find. It is about 2km out of the centre and is on a bus route. There is a small supermarket nearby and restaurants and a bigger supermarket are within 1km. Reception staff was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. We had a very...

I have to say these guys helped us out of a tight spot! We were telephoned at 5 pm by our, what we thought was our accommodation to tell they had overbooked and we had no where to stay. I rang at least 20 places and asked the same motels etc These guys came to the rescue. Hotel was 1970s...

The staff- the lady seemed quite annoyed all the time whenever I would ask about something while the man was very very friendly! The place was quite old fashioned. The sink taps had separate hot and cold ones so I could not wash my face with warm water, and the shower head was attached to the wall which was very...

This motel is comfortable and spacious, but somewhat tired. It has a good convenient location near Otago Uni and a 15 minute walk to the octagon. It was incredibly clean and the staff were most friendly and obliging. Everything you would need for a short trip was provided. As a light sleeper, I did find the night time traffic and...

Loved the loft design and arches in our room. Very spacious - great for families and small groups. Have everything you would expect in a motel. Kitchen was fully equipped and functional. Close to shops and restaurants with a 24 hour convenience store located just across the road. Staff was helpful with assisting us with local tour queries and To...

My studio room was surprisingly spacious, comfortable and everything worked well. Yes, the carpet and arm chairs could have been more modern but everything was spotlessly clean and for the rice it was much better than I expected. The staff were friendly and helpful.

This place hasn't been updated since the 70s. My room stinks of cheap disinfectant, the heater is busted and the bed should have been replaced a decade ago. Eastern block quality furnishings and carpeting. No washing machine, exercise gear, aircon or SCREENS to get fresh air.
