We stayed here for two nights and wish it had been more. This accommodation was beautiful- everything in our room and the house just seemed to be so precisely chosen. The breakfast and sitting area looked out over gardens and a view of the water. Parrots came to the outside deck. Walking distance to town, shops, restaurants though Peter and...

Peter and Iris provide a fantastic service starting with the pick up from the ferry and Peter's guided trip to Ulva Island and tour of Stewart Island road. Iris provided a tasty snack on our arrival. They even provide a pick up service from the local restaurants. Overall an excellent service. We left feeling part of the family.

Peter and Iris Tait are incredible hosts. The house is immaculate and the view from the main room was incredible. Their basic knowledge of the area is incredible. The tour to Ulva Island was a special experience. It gave Peter a chance to demonstrate his phenomenal knowledge of the plants, birds, animals , ecology, human history, and how all this...

Peter and Iris are so friendly and attentive. It is like visiting friends/family. The rooms are very comfortable - heating, fabulous shower, tea/coffee making facilities in the room as well as as wifi. Peter and Iris can't do enough for their guests - from chauffeuring around Oban, answering questions and explaining how things work on the Island. The sitting room...

We spent 2 nights with Peter and Iris in their wonderful B & B. Their hospitality is top notch as is their accommodation. They will gladly make dinner reservations and believe it or not will drop you off and collect you after dinner. Now " that " is what I call going the extra mile for your guests. The rooms...

Sails Ashore, the completely renovated two guestroom lodge overlooking the Halfmoon Bay on Stewart Island, is a combination b and b, historical adventure, and guided tour all-in-one. Peter and Iris are supremely attentive, catering to every whim, and able to answer every question one might have regarding any aspect of Stewart Island: Natural history, economy, politics, you name it. Actually,...

We have just spent a wonderful weekend staying at the Sails Ashore Lodge during their peak season time. The Starboard room allocated to us was a delight- immaculate, stylish and welcoming with home baked treats, bottled water and packaged nibbles readily available for our consumption. The bathroom amenities were modern and tastefully decorated. It was lovely to have heated tiles...

We stayed for a week at the peak of the season. The starboard and port rooms are adjoining and separated by glass so have very poor acoustic control. We could overhear our neighbors' conversations, snoring etc. We accidentally spilt a small amount of red wine on the bed while watching ASB tennis. The bed was stripped, with the sheets placed...

We are sorry that this guest was disapointed with their experience at Sails Ashore. However we would like to clarify a couple of points. Firstly room separation. Our two rooms share a common internal wall, which is acoustically insulated, including the ceiling void. Both face onto the guest lounge through glass doors. There are small opening windows which, if shut...

We spent 3 lovely nights here and while this is not one for those on a budget, we can highly recommend the thought and care Peter and Iris put into looking after their guests. The rooms are quiet, beautifully set up, cared for and cosy. A day pack and umbrellas are provided as are gowns and slippers. Guests have the...

I had the pleasure of staying here in September for one night. It was my first stay in a B&B and I am hooked. I loved the friendly atmosphere, the amazing room and the incredible views. Despite being a regular visitor to Stewart Island and living in Southland, I was blown away at the generous hospitality shown by Peter &...
