Stayed at Hunter Lodge for a work Christmas party. The food was excellent and so was the service. We were really looked after which made our event extremely enjoyable. Considering the conditions as it was 42 degrees

We stayed overnight and also had dinner at Shakey Tables restaurant. Beautiful location, very spacious and private at the same time. Rooms are clean and have everything you need for a weekend away from Sydney. Make sure you have dinner at the restaurant - fantastic food and they even have estate wines you can try. The sparkling white for $30... More

We had a fantastic dinner at Shakey tables and stayed in the lodge over night for our work Christmas party. Great venue for a group of people to have a fantastic meal and great wine. The owner put on some music after dinner and we danced the night away. Many thanks

We stayed over night while visiting the Hunter valley. The rooms are in a beautiful setting looking over vines and country side. The rooms have everything you could want and are good value for the Hunter valley, but if you are into indistinguishable characterless international style chain hotels this is not the place for you. The owners were very friendly... More

My wife and stay here with relatives who live in Australia and we were here as part of a family trip into NSW. We had been in a host of hotels for many weeks travelling around the world and we so enjoyed just having a homely place to stay. Instead on being negative as some reviewers are ours in positive.... We'll start with the pros. The room was clean, service was good, the location is lovely and the bed was comfortable. Previous reviewers who complained about the plastic wines glasses will be pleased to hear that these have been replaced with large glass goblets. But that's where it ended. Previous reviewers who described this as rustic were generous, sad and... More

The Hunter Country Lodge is a lovely place to stay. Everything has a 70's flavour combined with a very rustic atmosphere. The old mismatched doors on the rooms is also an interesting touch of quirkiness. The room was extremely clean, bed comfortable, and the bathroom was functional (the bonus for a small establishment was a proper shower, no shower curtain).... More

Very basic rooms that don't really take advantage of what really is a beautiful outlook. They were ok, clean and reasonably comfortable. Service at breakfast was terrible, we left. Pool was a bit dirty too. Dinner at the restaurant the night before promised a lot but disappointed.

Initial impressions are not great but once you get over the basic chalet and wander the parkland grounds it really does start to grow on you . The Shakey Table Restaurant in particular is extremely good , the menu is thoughtful and well served . We would certainly stay there again if back in the valley . The main negative... More
