We were offered a choice of two rooms, the cheapest at the front we were told could be noisy. We chose the more expensive quieter room at the back.
The reception staff were pleasant and helpful.
Parking is in an enclosed parking area behind a security barrier.
There is no breakfast offered but within a minutes walk from the front of the motel there are lots of options.
No WiFi available at the motel but if you sit outside on a bench close by, Wollongong's free city WiFi is available.
The room looks dated but everything worked.
The Air/Con was a window rattler.
The stairs to get to the upper level were dark and a slog with your cases.
The price was right !
The motel is difficult to locate from Crown Street (had to drive around the block 3 times before I found it). The Receptionist was both courteous and friendly and I was given the ground floor room I had requested.
Both the bedroom and ensuite were very large. The shower stall was also very large (allowing me to wash my past-my-waist length hair without banging my elbows on the sides of the stall).
The bedroom and ensuite were very clean. The fixtures and fittings are dated, however as I was only going to be in the room before and after the party I neither wanted, nor needed, 5-Star bits and pieces.
The Room Compendium contains information regarding local restaurants/cafes and sets out (in poorly spelt language) information regarding the hotel's amenities and local services. It is clear, however, the Compendium has not been recently updated as it refers to the hotel accepting payment by "Bankcard" (which was withdrawn from use in Australia in 2006). It also specifies the penalty for smoking in the room as $100 when the notice on the wall of the room stated the penalty was $250.
Despite the hotel's central location, I passed an undisturbed, quiet night.
The Downtown Motel certainly isn't The Ritz, but if I ask myself the question "would I stay here again?" the answer is "yes".
it was the worst hotel i have ever stayed in!
we were itching all night and the tv didn't work.
I wouldn't stay here again.
Service wasn't to bad, room was a good size but I wouldn't stay here again
We walked to our Family function held at the Surf Club.
Check in lady was pleasant and room was clean and safe.
We are returning in 4 weeks for another nights stay.
$125.00 per night for a double and single bed twin is fantastic value.
"No Views, try and pick a ground floor room at the back, remember it is just a place to sleep in a city."Read full review
