Really well located in the centre of everything. And off street parking was really good to have. Bed comfy. Room ckean. Quiet. Staff very good. Had a great stay. Would stay again. Lots of places to eat only minutes walk away. Nice hot showers and well maintained

This motel is right in the middle of town. Absolutely a perfect location
We were offered a choice of two rooms, the cheapest at the front we were told could be noisy. We chose the more expensive quieter room at the back.
The reception staff were pleasant and helpful.
Parking is in an enclosed parking area behind a security barrier.
There is no breakfast offered but within a minutes walk from the front of the motel there are lots of options.
No WiFi available at the motel but if you sit outside on a bench close by, Wollongong's free city WiFi is available.
The room looks dated but everything worked.
The Air/Con was a window rattler.
The stairs to get to the upper level were dark and a slog with your cases.
The price was right !

Room Tip: Get a room on the ground floor at the back. Quieter and less effort to get to.

I had been invited to a birthday party in Wollongong and chose to stay at the Downtown as it was very close to the party's venue.

The motel is difficult to locate from Crown Street (had to drive around the block 3 times before I found it). The Receptionist was both courteous and friendly and I was given the ground floor room I had requested.

Both the bedroom and ensuite were very large. The shower stall was also very large (allowing me to wash my past-my-waist length hair without banging my elbows on the sides of the stall).

The bedroom and ensuite were very clean. The fixtures and fittings are dated, however as I was only going to be in the room before and after the party I neither wanted, nor needed, 5-Star bits and pieces.

The Room Compendium contains information regarding local restaurants/cafes and sets out (in poorly spelt language) information regarding the hotel's amenities and local services. It is clear, however, the Compendium has not been recently updated as it refers to the hotel accepting payment by "Bankcard" (which was withdrawn from use in Australia in 2006). It also specifies the penalty for smoking in the room as $100 when the notice on the wall of the room stated the penalty was $250.

Despite the hotel's central location, I passed an undisturbed, quiet night.

The Downtown Motel certainly isn't The Ritz, but if I ask myself the question "would I stay here again?" the answer is "yes".

How they can even charge for these rooms is a disgrace. Aren't there standards that have to be maintained within the Motel industry, clearly this one has surpassed any inspection. These rooms are a health hazard and a work place health and safety issue, just waiting for an accident to occur. Even after complaining and leaving, still no regard, no refund, nothing. Do not stay at this motel.

How this place can have a 2 star rating is beyond me. Room smelt, went and bought a can of Glen 20. 1970s furniture, slashed seat, rusty table stand., stains on carpet, totally noisey and inadequate AC, bedside tables with trim peeling off and missing handles, I have stayed in 3rd world hotels better than this. Total bloody disgrace and should be bulldozed. Room 15 June 2022.

My Mum and I stayed for one Saturday night and the accommodation was exactly as advertised. Photos are accurate and location was ideal.

We walked to our Family function held at the Surf Club.

Check in lady was pleasant and room was clean and safe.

We are returning in 4 weeks for another nights stay.

$125.00 per night for a double and single bed twin is fantastic value.

This was an unexpected (and unwanted) trip to Wollongong. I needed something in a hurry that was convenient and cheap. And this is what I got. It was also clean and the staff were friendly. It is extremely dated and desperately in need of refurbishment. The whole place has a feeling of dinginess and neglect about it. I had a room on the upper floor which meant it was probably quieter than the ones on the carpark level. The stairwell has a light missing and was very dark and depressing. One day they will have someone trip here and sue them, so I suggest it gets fixed. The DVD player I had thought was supposed to be in the room was not there. There was a toaster, but no plate or knife, so not a very practical addition. However the bed was extremely comfortable, which was the main thing. Very well situated with many cafés around close by. The little Japanese place, Fuku, is a couple of doors up and was excellent. Walking distance to the water and to the hospital. As I said, it served the purpose, but if I had to go to Wollongong again I would probably do a bit more research and try and find something a little more salubrious. Oh, and there is also no wifi.

Very dingy and grotty. I’m surprised it passes any kind of standard to operate.Huge stains over the smelly carpets. Rusty dinged up fridge. Broken soap dish in mildewed bathroom, very loud thumping music from the night-club next door until 3.00am. Horrible experience
