From the moment we arrived at this beautifully restored historic homestead we felt welcomed and relaxed. Nothing was a problem for our excellent hosts. Stunning native bush walks, croquet on the front lawn, delicious meals and loads of history.

From the minute we arrived we were made to feel welcome and the hosts were extremely generous and kind hearted. The walks are pleasant and manageable for all ages. Croquet was hit and we managed to wine away hours on the front lawn. Dinner was served in an intimate dining room and the food and service was Devine. This is...

This little gem is well worth taking a slight detour for as you travel between Whanganui and New Plymouth. For $10 you can walk the clearly marked paths in this fully fenced reserve, spoting native birds as you go. The native trees are well labelled with informative signs giving details about traditional Maori uses as well as the Western scientific...

We recently stayed at Bushy Park over three nights. We had stayed overnight in 2010 and wanted to enjoy spending more time on the bush walks and enjoy a relaxing stay at the homestead. We were not disappointed! The reintroduction of native bird species to the bush has been very successful and we were delighted to observe stitchbirds, saddlebacks and...

Visited and stayed in the homestead. We were only people there. Bushy park continues to impress. The bird life continues to improve. Saw lots of saddle backs and Tui. The homestead is grand but a little tired. One way to improve is to go there and spend some money! I'm sure you won't be disappointed. The evening meal is good...

We saw many different birds up very close. It was a wonderful experience for only 10 per person. There was no one else in the park and the experience could not have been any better! An experience you should not miss!

This was the first time I've stayed at Bushy Park homestead. It was so good I can't wait to return! Comfy and very warm beds, and warm and caring hosts. The bonus you get by staying rather than just doing a day visit? The birds! Make sure you head along the walk to the wetland soon after dawn to enjoy...

As a group of quirky young women (5 of us), we were looking for a very unique and memorable place to celebrate a special occasion. Bushy Park more than satisfied! As lovers of all things vintage, pre-1940's and retro, we were able to enjoy the historic with modern amenities! Add on top of that, great hosts, incredible food and tranquil...

This is a super special thing to do with people of any age. Wanna see a more pork land one metre away from you? Want to have wee Robins bouncing around at your feet? Then stay at this beautifully restored homestead and step back in time. Great hosts, great nature, great food too!

Privilege to stay (and in doing so contribute to) somewhere that shows how NZ as it used to be in terms of birds buildings and forests. The sound and sight of the birds and the amazing forest was incredible. The difference between this and other non pest NZ forests make it a truly enriching experience. And you can actually stay...
