As others have mentioned, it is an old hostel but it's also cheap. Everything in the room were also old, tv did not work. Ensuite toilet was ok, clean enough. The best thing about the room was probably the fire escape from the window which faced the mountains and the railway tracks. Amazing! However, this also meant that it is...

We booked this hostel when other popular B&B are fully booked. End up we found this hotel is not bad. The location is easy to locate, near whale watching (less than 5 mins drive). There is a bar in the lodge for us to settle our dinner. Hostel itself also has pool table, jackpot machines, etc. Room itself has heater,...

This hostel is a converted hotel amd adjacent to the bar, but not noisy. Good central location and the several long term residents who lived there while working in the town were friendly. Kitchen was not well equipped nor very clean, bedrooms and bathrooms could be cleaner. It was pretty good value though.

The most horrible hostel I've ever been. Rooms are really dirty and the mattress is too short and thin. Another point is that you can only lock one of two toilets and the second one haven't been cleaned for days. Furthermore the bar downstairs plays the whole night ear-defeaning music and neither turn the music down nor giving earplugs upon...

We got to the hotel late at night after a series of car failures. Despite this the bar staff were able to book us into our room. Following you up the stairs are a series of old black and white photos of old Kaikoura. The hotel creaked at every step and half the bedroom doors were open. To make it...

Well, I must say that this was the worst backpackers I have been in New Zealand so far. When I arrived, I saw the BBH Member cardboard at the entry of the backpackers but when I got in, an unfriendly receptionist told me that they didn't have any discount with the card...then, I got to the dorm and it was...

Visited the bar and restuarant during our stay in Kaikoura. Despite the basic funiture the restuarant was clean and spacious. Decided we would try the seafood platter, as we had never eaten crayfish before. it was delicious, albeit a little expensive but well worth it!

Stayed 19/2/2013 Room was DISGUSTING, expensive, no Towels, TV not going, Curtains stuck to each other, BEDDING was FOWL, Cobwebs on Window, Floor FILTHY, Toilet and Bathroom was a PIG STY. Attitude of Bar Staff and Management RUDE, ARROGANT and UNHELPFUL. Bar Staff getting Punters to play Pokies when they should be WORKING.

Ridiculously in hindsight, we found ourselves having dinner here on our one and only night in beautiful Kaikoura. The service was appalling - we waited for an hour for our food before complaining. The food was just bearable and the attitude of the staff - no doubt recruited from upstairs was just dreadful. It really was the worst place we...
