My friend and I stayed at Sunrise lodge for a few nights and Tim and his mom made us feel extremely welcome. They we knowledgeable about the town and different excursions we could take. We were there during the earthquake and they made sure to take us in and look after us until we were able to leave town! I... More

I spent one comfortable and relaxed night at sunrise lodge. Its located just north of the town about 5 min walking. I stayed in a private room which actually had 3 beds. It was clean, spacious and warm. I love the hang out zones everywhere, the dining area, reading and t.v lounge, even a shed with table tennis and other... More

It's like being at home without being at home. The place is quiet, clean and comfortable. You are not packed with 20 other people. It is just next to the ocean, and about 15-20 minutes walk from the center (i-site, etc.). I want to come back!!!

I was in need of a little oasis and I found it here at sunrise. It's clean cozy and comfortable family run hostel. It is definitely a home away from home....no bunk beds :) owners are very kind and friendly, and willing to help guests. Lots of attention to detail. One of my favourite hostels in NZ

The manager is the coolest manager in NZ, the staff is friendly, rooms bathrooms and toilets are very cleans. Even dorms room are nice because there is only 4 people in the room. I stayed at this hostel in Kaikoura for one night, we had been driving all the way from Abel Tasman and the owner was kind enough to stay up for us as we were gonna be past the check in time. The hostel itself is very clean and there was plenty of free spices and condiments to use for cooking.... More

We booked a double room which was clean and comfortable. We liked the layout of seperate lodges as this gives more opportunity to talk with other travellers and the kitchen does not get so manic at supper time. Although I heard the train occasionally it certainly didn't intrude and we didn't hear any road noise, would happily stay again.

Great place in an amazing location - right by the beach and you can hear the Pacific Ocean waves crashing at night! I stayed here for several weeks and it feels more like a friendly flat-share than an anonymous hostel. The manager really cares about his guests and it shows, he'll sort you out with anything if you need any... More

We had a quick stay in a double room for one night, leaving early in the morning. The room and bed was great and very comfortable. I appreciated the fast and unlimited wifi (not many NZ hostels provide unlimited). Location wasn't bad either - 15 min walk from the train station and town center with a few small shops closer...
