We stayed here for 2 nights, a late booking, so were given a "room" upstairs in the main lodge overlooking the deer pastures. It was a large room very tastefully decorated with beautifully crafted timber furniture and comfortable easy chairs and a log fire for...More
I chose to book Hapuku Lodge as it is an easy stop after Christchurch and close to the wildlife viewing available at Kaikoura. I booked a Lodge Room but was delighted by the owner's generosity in upgrading us to a Lodge Suite. This was a...More
We spent one night at Hapuku in one of the lodge suites as the tree houses were fully booked. Our accommodations were large and beautiful with tasteful furnishings, a deep steeping tub and views overlooking a pasture of deer. The food was divine during both...More

We loved this place. Beautiful Room, wonderful dining experience, and the Hotel Employees were attentive accomodating. I wanted to stay longer! We only stayed one night, but it was my favorite place to stay while in new zealand for 3 weeks.

There is also very positive news that the main state highway south of Kaikoura (SH1) is likely to be opened before the 20th December.
You could also look at taking a helicopter or fixed wing flight in and out. I can highly recommend this as a way to see the coastline, and is a wonderful experience. Hapuku are offering a significant subsidies for this as I am aware it can be expensive. Trailfinders should be able to give you the full information on this, let me know if they cannot. If you have car hire I am sure they can look at changing it around. It is not like you need it at Bay of Many Coves anyway, and they have a helipad.
