My husband and I stayed at Bayview Homestay in Kaikoura in March 2017 and it was an amazing experience. The owners Margaret and her daughter are amazing people and we enjoyed very much to share our experiences. Their life and their stories were so interesting to listen too. Margaret has had more than 30 000 guests and prepared delicious breakfasts...

Margaret and Nicky are such caring hosts, providing everything we needed for a great stay. Margaret's garden is a joy to behold and her breakfasts are delicious. Bay-View is up on a hill and the views are stunning. We walked down to sea-level a couple of times. This took longer than one might expect because I had to take so...

We had such a warm welcome from Margaret and her daughters. We were treated like the family. Margaret recommended places to eat in the evening as wel as things to do. Lovely warm sitting room with a wood burner. Margaret is an amazing woman - 86 years old with a wonderful garden that she tends herself and she is obviously...

We received a very warm welcome from Janet and her mum Margaret (despite the fact we had made them late for their dinner, as it had taken us ages to drive from Oamaru!). Margaret is a lovely lady, 86 years old, who does all her own gardening - a garden we can only dream about, it is so lovely! Bayview...

Margaret & Nicky provided a wonderful welcome, great amenities, a beautiful garden and amazing breakfasts! All rooms have doors to the outside. There is a lounge and kitchen area for the use of guests. Also the use of a washing machine. Bay View is situated on the Peninsula and was a nice quiet place. Minimal street lights made it a...

Really enjoyed this home from home. Margaret is lovely. By the end of our very enjoyable stay, we felt like we were saying goodby to a good friend. We were very well looked after, from the yummy welcome banana cake to the lovely wood burner on a chilly evening, to the scrumptious breakfast with home made toasted bread. We will...

Wonderful in all matters! Warm welcome, the hospitality, the room, the beds, the breakfast, the surrondings. A perfect B&B stay if you are in the neithborhood of Geraldine. We for sure will recommend this to travellers in NZ. And Margreth, you just love her and she loves her guests.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Margaret Woodill is the classic Kiwi grandmother and thinks nothing of getting up at 5.30 am to cook a full breakfast including homemade bread before your whale watching or dolphin swimming trip in Kaikoura, New Zealand. She began taking in passing travellers over 20 years ago, just before the whales and dolphins turned the township into a tourist Mecca. When her four children left home, opening a bed and breakfast seemed a logical use for spare bedrooms and bathrooms. Since husband Bob’s death in 1999, Margaret says guests are her family and that’s why she calls it a HOMESTAY rather than a B&B. ... more   less
