We travel frequently and over the decades have preferred to stay in B&Bs or small inns. Sussex House is one of the finest we've ever experienced. Guests are pampered, with attention paid to ALL details. The heritage house, filled with lovely antiques, is a gem, and it's only a short walk to the art galleries and restaurants of central Nelson....

This is the second time we have stayed at Sussex House and is still the best place to stay. Heather the owner couldn't have done more to make our stay perfect. The breakfasts are gorgeous. Would highly recommend staying here.

Really enjoyed our stay , this historic venue located next to the river with very comfortable rooms, a delicious breakfast to start our day and our host Heather made us feel so welcome. Her recommendations for dining out were spot on as well. We will be back!

What an awesome spot. Beautiful venue, lively outdoor seating. Excellent service and the food was fantastic, I would have happily eaten any of the 6 or so lunch choices. Great value for money. I had seafood chowder. Menu changes regularly

We cannot say enough how fabulous we found Sussex House. Cute and very comfortable bedroom opening up onto a sunny terrace. Great location and we also recommend the cafe for lunch and the Suter Gallery just across the bridge. Thank you Heather.

I enjoyed my stay at Sussex House and would recommend it to others wanting somewhere central to stay. IT was next to Queens park and the Art Gallery. And a close walk to the main part of the shopping centre.

Lovely heritage house, walking distance to downtown, situated close to Queens Park and walking trials to Botanic hill/centre of New Zealand point of interest. Flexible check out time which worked for us as we had a 3pm flight. Only improvement suggestion is to have electric kettle in coffee corner in upstairs hallway full of water or have a jug of...

Two nights at Sussex House and we were immediately captivated by a beautifully furnished period home set in a quiet area of Nelson on the Maitai river. Adjacent to Queens Gardens and a short walk to Nelson town. Heather was a wonderful hostess ably assisted by Rob and Mary. We can't wait to visit again. Don and Helen

Went here for lunch on a nice sunny day, dined at a table on the veranda, good service, good food and good prices, every thing was first class, will certainly go there again. The menu has something for everyone,It does look as if it is fairly busy so you may need to give them a ring.
