The male staff member was knowledgable yet condescending on arrival. The kitchen was ok, the rooms were very basic, the location was good and the garden is a nice touch. Overall; very very average. Stay somewhere else.

My stay at yha was average at best but to top it off I got a serious case of bed bugs bites now I'm having to go to the doctors for steriod creams and injections, if you stay here make sure they do not have bed bugs

I had a terrible night due mainly to the low quality of my matress: I could feel every spring and had to put some clothes and a towel on top of it to try to get some rest. I am not picky but those springs were seriously hurting and on top of that the carpet smelled like a big pile...

The location is great, next to supermarkets and restaurants. It's well cleaned and the showers are good. All beds have power outlets by their side. The location is a bit noisy from traffic and maybe for this reason the room had ony a tine window and a wall covered with wood, so it was a bit hot there.

Staff are super friendly and genuine here. Always ready to help you out with something to do and / or how to do it. The bike hire is very fair and worth having a go as the beach and cycle paths are just over the road :) Rooms are always well kept at YHA hostels and here is no exception....

Small room with a cracked wash basin directly over the dining area and small outside BBQ area where a ? ball was being struck on a wall and people were still talking and laughing loudly at 2 am. I had to lean out the window and shout several times before getting a reduction in the noise. Who is supposed to...

Nelson YHA was our base for two tramps in the north. The front of house was welcoming, always helpful and willing to go beyond the little inquiries of one night visitors. We sampled both double ensuite rooms and std doubles over an 8 nights. Each room was clean and well prepared. Wi Fi works well closer to reception. Good range...

The people working here were amongst the most helpful we met around NZ and that is saying something as pretty much everyone is very helpful. They went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. The room itself was very good and so was the overall cleanliness of the property.

Free wifi (reaches to the rooms, but is a little slow away from the common area); free bread each day; clean bathrooms; great kitchen and lounge facilities; great location (all tour companies do pick ups right outside, 5min walk from bus station and a lot of good eateries). Comfy bed, my only complaint was a form pillow! Would stay again
