We only stopped for a couple of drinks but the service was wonderful. The receptionist greeted us at the door as if we were staying there. They provided us with the history of the place as written on the menu, free wifi service code & excellent service! Now that is the way go treat customers....I guess they learned it right...

The site of the Duke of Marlborough Hotel on the foreshore in Russell, Bay of Islands, has such history! It opened in 1827 as Johnny Johnston's Grog Shop, over a decade before the signing of the Treaty between Maori and the English. If only the beach in front could speak, what words would we hear? The current structure was built...

We stayed two nights here in the busy January period, and while the hotel was packed out with guests and those eating at the restaurant, it was quiet and in a wonderful location. The hotel looked right out onto the water we loved its character and history! The once 'hell hole of the Pacific' has morphed into a charming town....

The Hotel has an excellent menu and the food was very well prepared perhaps a little more expensive than other hotel but worth it for the ambience. The service was very...

We had music playing across the street, glorious setting and professional service. The good was delicious - lamb and Hapuka for the main was mouth watering. We tried a wine tasting set of three which was a great way to sample 'Northland' wines. Thank you for a lovely anniversary dinner!

You are steeped in the history of the Northland here at the Duke. Harbor side at Russell's waterfront. Walk to see the sights, hike, and enjoy the former Hell Hole of the Pacific. Quiet rooms. Older feel, the charm of the much used well-worn item. Helpful staff. Highly recommended.

One of the items on our bucket list was to eat here one day - we had a quick trip from Wellington to watch the Tall Ships race and also managed lunch. It was fabulous, service and food was outstanding and just ticked all of the boxes for us. Dessert was out of this world!

We had dinner which was so good we went back for lunch the following day. Beautiful location, gorgeous historic building. We tried most of the menu and were impressed...loved the kumara bread! Only one niggle..our waitress for lunch seemed like she would rather be anywhere else than at work!
