Great location but the hotel is a little tired and the service is abysmal. The rooms are clean and comfortable but the furniture is a worn and looks a bit like Ikea. We had to wait 45 minutes to get a drink in the restaurant, and the food 90 minutes The waitress having lost our first order. The food (lamb) was minimal...

Booked a king room with sea view...room 5. Large, clean & well appointed. Staff friendly, informative & efficient. Was aware of the fact that coffee wasn't included with your breakfast and to be honest wasn't an issue, just a bit quirky I guess. For us it was one of the places in NZ you have to stay at least once in your life,but...

Went here for a surprise dinner and it was very good. The meals were excellent and the service friendly and attentive. Perhaps a little slow between entree and main but they had a wedding party in - the history and surrounds made it worthwhile.

We have long loved this special hotel and its incredible location. So much so that we chose to marry in Russell and stay several nights at the Duke with close friends. I have never placed a negative review before but feel compelled to mention the lack of empathy we experienced when an unexpected cyclone meant two of our small wedding...

Simone, Thank you for your post. Our policy is help out where we can. We are sorry this did not come across in your experience. We are a small family run hotel and we don't over book (unlike Air New Zealand or bigger hotels) so when people cancel (if its outside the cancellation policy timing) we need to make sure...

Very glad we booked, as even after the Easter break it was still busy at lunchtime. The service was very friendly and we really enjoyed the food (kumara bread, smoked fish salad, calamari salad). Washed down with a good local wine, recommended by waitress. Would definitely return.

We had been to the Bay of Islands before but headed straight for the Duke of Marlborough for lunch. Food is fantastic, wine is superb and the service is excellent. Great location overlooking the beach.

A warm welcome coming in from the rain. We just had a wine and a snack. Nice. Efficient friendly staff. Very family friendly. Old world charm. Comfortable and easy place to relax. Indoor and outdoor seating.

We booked 2 nights at The Duke in a Waterfront Room at the recommendation of a friend, and we were not disappointed! We had Room 7 which was the corner room and I think the best room in the hotel. Lovely, large clean and bright with great views over the strand and the bay. Large ensuite with spa bath. The...

We chose a "small room" when we booked. The instant we were shown to our room #20 we regretted it. The room was so small there was no room for a second suitcase. Of course there was no table or chairs and just one tiny bench for storage. The handbasin was so small that the faucet was almost bigger than...

Standard basic room, with no sea view, was what we booked. Room was small, with little drying space, but had assess to a private outside area which was great. Staff were friendly and location was great on waterfronf. Swimming straight in front of hotel. Good food in restaurant, but pricey as we found in N Zealand generally. No safe in...
