We had researched our second trip to Russell well and noted the reviews on Trip Advisor, Rough Guide and Gaystay. Everything you read about this delightful accommodation and friendly and knowledgeable hosts is true and more. Arcadia Lodge is a short walk to the village...More
While the setting in New Zealand's beautiful Northland was the initial attraction, I'm convinced we would have enjoyed our stay at Arcadia Lodge no matter where it was. David and Brad are excellent hosts and their lodge is immaculate. The delicious breakfasts were a great...More
We had a really lovely stay at this B&B and would definitely return again. The house was charming and very comfortable, with good views over the harbour and a convenient walking distance into Russell. Breakfasts were delicious with homemade jams and locally sourced organic produce....More
Impeccable was the first word, followed by many many more good adjectives. The views of the bay from the balcony were just breathtaking, but the house itself was no less stunning. I had the chance to stay in 3 different rooms, all of them so...More
Wonderful B&B -- a clean, comfortable old home that has been updated with obvious thoughtfulness and care. Set on a hill with beautiful views of the harbor. The breakfasts were delicious and always included homemade jams and marmalades from the hosts' own garden. David and...More

Hi Lindley and Don, just spotted your booking for next summer - welcome back to Russell. Off the top of my head I know the time line back 3 owners ago which is only to the 80s but if you let me know your grandparents' name I can find out more. Going back from us the owners names were Carlsson, before them Heays & Bosanquet, before them Shatwell (his name but not sure if his wife had the same name) but they ran it as a very successful back packers. Lots of people in town would be able to give me the info if I can give the name. Otherwise I need to dig out the title deeds. Cheers, David
