A few minutes from the quiet village of Urupema, up a hill, you will find your very own Lake House. A true piece of paradise if you like nature, birds, peace and quiet. There are 3 spacious private, spotlessly clean cabins, all located at one side of a small lake. Breakfast is copious and is served at the main building. The owner, Fernando, is very knowledgeable about history and nature. Besides that he's a very nice, caring and loving man. I wish I could have stayed longer, but then, there's always another holiday !
cold cabins, I woke up at night with a headache because of the cold. We lit the fireplace and the cabin becomes filled with smoke, we could not open the windows because they were bolted. The owners seem quite tired of working and we feel a great stress and little will to please. The dinner was very simple and it was not worth the 30 reals. Do not try to play with the dog because the owner will annoy you insistently and heavily, they do not seem very dog lovers. I'm sorry but it was one of the worst stays of my life.
I stayed here 2 nights three years ago (Dec. 2012) and vowed to return for the Parrot Festival. I just love this Pousada and the hospitality of the owners. They make their own soaps, jams, honey, breads and other baked goods. The beds, bedding and towels are of excellent quality and the rooms clean. There is a wood fireplace and an electric heater. The chalets are romantic for couples or families but the main house and rooms are perfect for birders. Feeders abound. This time of year is amazing to watch the 20,000 Red-spectacled Parrots that frequent the valley. Bring warm clothes/layers no matter what time of year, including pajamas.
We stayed in this lovely place only 1 night - definitely too short! This is a wonderful place to stay, if you love to see some unusual birds. For one, it is a place to see (guaranteed - if you use playback) Marsh Tapaculo. But in March and April it is packed with Red-spectacled Parrots eating Araucaria nuts. The pousada has feeders and very clean windows, so you can see 10 - 20 species just sitting in the restaurant. Perfect for photographing the birds. The pousada is a lovely place: the hosts are wonderful and make you feel at home. The food is home cooked on the wood stove. You have to speak Portuguese or German, though, but I'm sure hand signs will work. You might want to hire a bird guide (Adrian Eisen Rupp) who will pick you up at the Florianopolis airport and show you the best birding places. The chalets are spaceous and the bed(s) cozy and warm. There is a fireplace with the wood stacked for easy starting. But you need some paper to start it. There is enough wood to keep the warmth going for most of the night. Bring warm cloth - it gets cold at night. Finally, this is a beautiful spot. So even if birds are not your thing, you will love the beauty of the nature and the hospitality of the people!…
Our birdwatching group stayed for three nights in this nice pousada. We didn't have anything to complain! Good sleep, nice food and really friendly patrons who really took care of us. For a birdwatcher this is a good choice as the trails start from the yard of pousada. Good value for the money.
