I visited this YHA recently and stayed for 4 days. The kitchen is closed at 10.30 pm and no drinks are allowed from outside to be consumed inside. Considering every BYO place shuts down at 10 pm in the town, the bar is the place to head to. It was a bit weird that a guest has no other option...

As a family of 4 with 2 children, our experience at the Halse Lodge was pleasant enough. We had the 2 people room which only had 2 bunk beds and little else. There was no locker to secure our valuables. The room did not have sufficient electrical sockets. The room had an overhead fan which helped to cool the room...

The location of this hostel is very good, but the rooms do not have air con which makes it very hot at night, the beds are ok as far as hostels go & the showers were cleaned well & had no trouble using them. Wifi system is a bit bizarre with so many codes but it's connection is good despite...

It's a nice place. With decent rooms and it's good that it's only a 5m walk to the beach. But besides that it misses the backpacker vibe. There is a bar, but it's open to locals as well. And sadly the public at night exists mainly of locals. All the nights there was no room for us to sit, before...

The Staff are very friendly and location is amazing but private rooms are expensive, tiny and not very nice looking. If you just need a place to lay your head then go for it. The backpackers really seems to draw a younger crowd even though it is a 19th Century National Trust Listed building.

The hostel itself was okay, however my main issue was the staff. Firstly they didn't tell me about the welcome drinks on my first day, they didn't tell me where anything was and the service was very poor in the bar area. They also forgot to inform me that the kitchen wasn't open until 6.45am (which I only discovered when...

The accommodation is great. But a few things to consider. The wifi sucks. Period. I've traveled through Cambodia, India, Myanmar and Thailand a month each and almost every hostel there has had a better wifi system than here. This is important to long term guests and for travelers. Also, kitchen not open 24/7. So it's good, but I can't believe...

This hostel feels a bit like a home; it is an old, big, wooden house on top of a hill. The atmosphere is great, the rooms are nice and clean, just as the kitchen and the bathrooms. There is a big area where tou can just sit and relax. The restaurant has great food and there's a bar too. For...

This hostel is good in terms of atmosphere and location but it's probably one of the worst yha hostels we've stayed in. I will leave the best until last but here's the things that let it down: -rooms have open slats with no netting/mesh where insects come in (mosquito bites every morning), moths at night, quite a few flies.. I've...
