After seven days safari at Swiandu and Jongomero we enjoyed three days of relaxation at Ras Kutani - a hidden gem on the coast of the Indian Ocean. From the moment we arrived by small plane from Dar es Saleem we were treated to excellent service from all of the staff, nothing was too much trouble. We were upgraded to...

We arrived at Ras Kutani after safari. Never wanting to leave the bush, it always takes me a day or two to "settle in" to the last leg of a trip to Tanzania. To be greeted by Emiel, Kalimani (who's inventive cocktail is a must during a stay) and the entire staff with such grace, warmth & "you are here...

We had a super relaxing 4 days in one of the hilllside suites at the end of our honeymoon. The staff are wonderful here and the food is of a very high standard, particularly accommodating of my need to be gluten free. The accommodation was lovely and spacious and the housekeeping staff were friendly and thorough. We really enjoyed our...

This was actually my second visit to Ras Kutani, and it's the kind of place that keeps you coming back for more... I kicked off my shoes as I arrived, and didn't even look at them again until I stepped into my departure car. It's laid-back, relaxed, and easy - the sort of place that feels instantly like home. The beautiful, remote setting and the way the lodge has been carefully built to compliment its natural surroundings make this is a magical place, where I was forced to relax and enjoy the simple pleasures in life. Ras Kutani has the perfect balance of nature and luxury - a sense of true harmony - a stunning setting combined with tasty,...

I have never experienced anywhere quite as wonderful as Ras Kutani. It's absolutely incredible. It's beautiful, peaceful, calming & everything you could wish for when you want to chill out somewhere. The suites are superb, I loved the indoors outdoors feel. I cannot recommend it enough. The hosts were so welcoming...but not over the top & all of their team...

Thank you Craig for your wonderful review of Ras Kutani - it truly is the best place to start a Tanzanian safari - rest, relax and rejuvenate before going off on bush adventures and only 10 mins charter flight from Dar's international airport! And indeed we have lots of wonderful wildlife around our lagoon and also during the cooler months...

Charming beachside resort in quite a remote location approx. 1 and ½ - 2 hours from Dar es Salaam on a good run (much longer if you get snarled up in the heavy traffic of Dar). Ideal for a few restful days after a safari. The beach is shared with a few local fishermen but there are no beach hawkers....

This was my second time in Ras Kutani, see my comments in 2012. I returned because we were so enthusiastic. The place is fantastic, as well: stretched along a beach of soft sand and, partly, along a beautiful lagoon. The bungalows are very nice, with a huge swahili bed, made of natural materials. However, my first stay was a little...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
This beach destination in Africa offers the visitor that increasingly rare commodity - long stretches of pristine deserted beaches, warm blue seas and an opportunity to experience the peace and tranquility long since swamped by overcrowding in more publicized tropical resorts. The setting ensures that feeling of being on one's own tropical island. The lodge is flanked by a fresh water lagoon abutting onto a coastal forest, which spills to the edge of the unspoilt and undeveloped beach. Accommodation is in nine spacious, charming cottages constructed of natural, local materials that harmonise perfectly with the wonderful surroundings. On top of the hill we have also four suites and a family house all with stunning views. ... more   less
