Gerbrandy State is an old (1769) farm, rebuilt with all modern comfort.
It’s possible to rent a room or appartment. We went for the appartment (3 persons).
The appartment is siutated on the 1st floor, which you can reach by a rather steep stairs.
If you have troubles with stairs, ask for a room at the ground floor.
The appartement is spacious and clean, with fully equipped kitchen (food shop 5 mins by car).
There’s an off road parking. The owner and his wife are very friendly, helpfull and enthousiastic. Speak English too, so international guests are more than welcome too.
At the terrace you can have your own BBQ meal with view miles away.
The breakfast is very good. Typical reginal and Dutch bread, fresh seasonal fruits and of course eggs, meat, chees, and so on.
The owner can give advise about the things to do. Take 2 – 4 days to see all nice villages around, the islands (Vlieland, Texel) or take your bike. Even Amsterdam or Volendam can be reached...

I recently stayed here with my parents, on a brief road trip to Friesland. The stay began with a free room upgrade, which was much welcome to me since they put us in a large room with a large bed for 2, sofa, kitchenette (stove, kettle, dishes, etc), but most importantly a smaller separate attached room with a double bed. Included with the stay is a wonderful breakfast complete with Frisian cheese and fresh-baked bread, and access to a games room (pool, ping-pong, tv, board games, etc).

What made our stay at Gerbrandy most memorable though would have to be the owners, who are so friendly, and eager to make sure you leave satisfied. In our case, when we had to drive back to Amsterdam at 5am so my parents could catch a flight, they bought more than enough food for us to grab in the morning before running out. Wonderful!!

I would highly recommend Gerbrandy State if you want to visit Friesland. If you want to explore the whole region, and the little historic villages it...
