Also known as Casa Rio Sierpe, we stayed for 6 nights in April 2023, 2 couples in our 60’s. After arriving at Sierpe, we transferred to boat and travelled for approximately 30 minutes to Casa Rio. The property is located up a very steep 500 metre gravel track which was somewhat of a challenge. But the location is superb with stunning unrestricted views from a broad outdoor balcony overlooking the Sierpe river, the tropical rainforest leading down to the mangrove forests below. Howler monkeys pass through periodically, and Toucans add splashes of colour in the trees. The property is well maintained, clean and fully appointed including Wi-Fi (no television). There are 2 bedrooms, both ensuite, note that the upstairs bedroom is significantly larger than that downstairs, and there is a sofa bed, day lounge and large hammock in the communal space. There are no windows, excellent sealed insect screens ensure the house is insect free. We had the services of Dolly who provided excellent 3 course evening meals. Reuben took us by boat to the beach (15 minutes) and cruises/tours through the jungle and mangroves where he pointed out numerous animals (3 toed sloths, squirrel monkeys, white face capuchin, various frogs and spiders) and plants that we simply did not see.…

Recently we did a trip to Costa Rica for the first time. Our first stop was Rio Sierpe as a way to go to Corcovado National Park. We are a family of four and we are used to doing long demanding hikes and our family really loves nature and the outdoors. My family is composed of two native Spanish speakers and two somewhat Spanish but mainly English speaking kids. In order for you to get to this property you need to park and arrive at the town of Sierpe. There we were received by Ruben, who is the caretaker of the property, captain, guide and expert in the Sierpe area and Simone, manager, contact and expert and resident of the area. Both of them are extremely helpful and amazing people. We were given a tour of the Sierpe river around the dock and you will see the first fauna. After that it’s a 45 min boat ride to casa Sierpe thru the mangrove forests and river. It will take your breath away. The deeper in the river you get the more you will realize this will be a unique experience. We arrived at the docs and thus you start the first hike of the trip (thankfully without your luggage 😂). This hike is thru a dirt and gravel path that first is fairly flat but to get to the house you will have to take a good hill. You will learn to love that steep incline 😂😂 (both up and downhill). Once you finally get to the property, you are received by wonderful and talented chef Dolly (we chose to have her do our dinners with her and she is an amazing cook) with some local citrus drink. The house is a truly unique one property. It is impeccably clean, the wood finishes of the house are impeccable. The house is mainly screen “windows” and the sounds and views of the jungle come alive. Great airflow, super comfortable for our family of four. Even tho you are in the jungle you have all the amenities including wifi! We always able to get in touch with Simone who was super attentive and Ruben. Dolly is a sweetheart, gave us some of the best meals we had in our 13 day trip. Ruben was able to give us in depth tours of the mangrove, visit a local farmer who lives on an island and grows a ridiculous amounts of organic local fruits. They also helped us facilitate our visit to Corcovado national park which was another highlight to the experience. We also did the horse tour. The horse tour is thru the jungles, rivers and roads of Sierpe. It is not for people who have any degree of fear of horse back riding as the tour will take you thru some rough terrain. Our family did great but we have experience with horses. It is hands down one of the best and longest horse tours i have ever done. If you are inquisitive you will learn a lot about the area and Costa Rica in this tour. I would hands down recommend this property and team to anyone who loves nature, who loves the outdoors and who can do some hikes especially that steep incline 😂😂. The team does an amazing job in accommodating to where you are at. To maximize the experience, you will have to push yourself and be inquisitive. Thanks to the team for making this an amazing experience!…

This was more than just a stay in a house. Just getting there was an adventure - a 30 minute boat ride and then a trek up a hill to a beautiful home with stunning views of the Sierpe River and the mountains beyond. Being greeted by Dolly, our cook exceptional, bearing iced fruit drinks and cool facecloths was only the beginning of exceptional service and wonderful side adventures. Fortunately we booked Dolly for all evening meals. Rueben our guide extraordinary was knowledgeable, always prompt, friendly, as good as you could get. There were more options for adventures than we could take advantage of. Don’t miss the boat trip to the beach at the mouth of the Sierpe River. Gorgeous. Good communications with Mark our host and great coordination with Simone our concierge. Highly recommend.…

Rustic and relaxing. Whether your thing is eco-tourism or great salt water fishing this laid-back place has it in spades. Located on the banks of the Sierpe river one mile from where the river empties into the ocean it is a perfect location to explore the jungle or fish for salt water species running the gamut from good sized snook and snapper to giant sailfish. Best time to visit is Oct. to Jan to avoid the very wet season. We were there in June and it is when the sardines are spawning in the river and the river looks like a silver blanket from the millions of sardines.
