THE HYDRO REFUSED TO GIVE US A FULL REFUND. Booked for a High Tea 4 months in advance; 1 month prior to event, Covid lockdown meant The Hydro could not honour our booking. We requested a full refund The Hydro refused - referring us to their cancellation policy. The policy was ambiguous & badly written, but it talked about cancelling 7 days prior to event. We asked for a full refund 1 MONTH prior to event. Even when events were our of our control, The Hydro played the "we're bigger than you, what are you going to do about it" card. Even though I loved The Hydro under its previous owners, I can & will find just as beautiful locations in The Blue Mountains that are better Corporate Citizens. This experience has left me wary of dealing with them again - plus a very bad taste in my mouth

Thank you to the owners who were prepared to restore this glorious building. Got a great package through Luxury Escapes. Included high tea and a tour. We were lucky to have a room at the end of the corridor, so for three days it was qymuite spacious. Can't fault anything. Service, high tea, the tour. Loved every moment.

Our stay started with us not being able to park in the hotel car park as it was full at 3pm. The car park is nowhere near big enough to accommodate even a small percentage of the guests staying at the hotel. On top of that there are no lines in the car park meaning guests were taking up 2 spots in some instances due to the lack of parking guidance. The hotel encourages you to park on the Great Western Highway in angled parking outside the hotel. We secured the last space in this section. A trick for guests is to arrive at check in time to get a space in the hotel car park and to simply just not leave. Every time we went anywhere it was a struggle to find a space when we returned regardless of the time of day. Unless you’d like to end up having to park down at the Hydro Pavilion which is a walk away from the hotel, especially if you were having to cart your luggage down the highway to check in.   Checking in was “interesting”. We were completely confused where reception actually was. There is no clear signage to indicate where this is and no doorway to drive up to like many other hotels. The sign says to enter the hotel through one door, when you walk inside this is a lounge/bar area with people sitting and drinking. Naturally you walk back out thinking that you’ve taken a wrong turn. We then entered another door down further (which ended up being the restaurant entrance) which looked like a reception desk, but that wasn’t reception either. We were told reception was actually in the bar. A simple sign when you walk through the door to the bar to tell you reception is to your right would be helpful. The great thing about the reception desk in the bar area is that you have to lug all your luggage through the bar/lounge area. And when I say lug I mean lug as there are no lifts (how this works for people with disabilities I don’t know) There is also no pathway cleared for people checking in and out to get through the lounge/bar area to the stairs. What is extra special is that this lounge/bar area is not only reception but also the breakfast room. While you are trying to enjoy your breakfast you are having to try navigate around suitcases and people lined up to check out. Another interesting thing in this time of COVID is that the breakfast is buffet style with no sneeze guards or any protection for the diners against germs and the like. The breakfast sittings are for 45mins, although it took just as long to receive the coffee we ordered as soon as we sat down.   The room we were staying in had been freshly painted, however, the painter neglected to paint the cupboard doors where the paint was worn through. The room was lacking an alarm clock and mirror outside of the one located in the bathroom. The shower head in the bathroom was so high up that the shower had no water pressure whatsoever and we had the immense pleasure of enjoying luke warm showers in winter.   We dined at The Wintergarden Restaurant for both High Tea and dinner. One suggestion to the hotel would be to put lights outside the restaurant so you are able to see the view at night, since the entire side of the restaurant is glass for this very reason.   Overall, very disappointing.

Thankyou for taking the time to share your experience with us. We agree and acknowledge that being in a heritage listed building has its quirks and limitations - including where we are able to build/amend. We are indeed adding an elevator to our building in one wing soon and have been unable to do so thus far due to the heritage restrictions place upon us. Our lounge bar/ reception area is placed in its historical location - but we thank you for your feedback. Parking options are located at both ends of building as well as in front. As a mountain location - we are limited in space in some ways.... Thank you.

Iconic destination but based on long weekend rates very poor value. Service is best considered as ordinary. For a venue like this you would expect more. Rooms are very small but not considered a big issue. In favour of the hotel, the decor and surroundings are great.
