Detailed Reviews
We just happened to be near Shannon when we decided we needed to get a place to spend the night. Saw this on Trip Advisor and decided to call and reserve a room. We were greeted by Charlotte and given a ground floor room as we had requested. Very spacious room, large bathroom very updated and clean. We loved the number and accessibility of the outlets in the room as well. The restaurant was closed on Monday, but we received some great recommendations for dinner. When we returned, Gillian, the co-owner with her husband, was there to greet us. She prepared a pot of tea and some of her husband's delicious homemade brownies for us. We had a nice chat and went to bed. Next morning - lovely breakfast with anything you would want. Their homemade breads and jams are absolutely incredible. The next evening after we left, we heard of the US travel ban and quickly had to make new flight reservations out of Shannon. Of course, Carrygerry Country House was our first choice to stay in. It's only a few minutes from the airport. They very graciously gave us our same room, which we had been very pleased with the first time. The restaurant was open that evening. Before dinner, in the den, we sat with a few other 'stranded' people and had something to drink. Gillian was the ultimate hostess. Very gracious and kind. We had asked her if we might just have a soup and sandwich since we weren't very hungry and she graciously obliged. The veg soup was amazing. This place is reknown for its food and i can totally see why. They also have several shetland ponies on the premises that are fun to watch. The surrounding countryside is absolutely peaceful and beautiful. It's on an estuary as well. Very quiet. However, the best part about it is Charlotte and Gillian! You will be made to feel right at home in this fantastic B&B. HIghly recomment!!!Thank you, Gillian!!!!!

Arriving with my elderly mother, the approach to the house was spectacular. I was led to a side door to have access with the wheel chair. Going through we came into a beautiful courtyard, flowers , shrubs, tables and chairs dotted around. Bedroom doors on the right almost like apartments, each room named for a plant, ours was Bramble. The room was spacious, modern yet very classic old style. Fabulous bathroom, plenty of towels and toiletries, large shower with powerful jet. There are also rooms in the main part of the house We had tea and coffee in the courtyard and Gillian also provided little chocolate brownies, delicious! We sat in the bar for a while, fabulous old arm chairs provided us with a view of the countryside and the planes taking off from Shannon airport. We had a fabulous dinner in the conservatory , a basket of homemade bread and real butter, a perfect bowl of soup, the chunkiest freshest piece of cod iv ever seen, delicious vegetables and salad, and a fabulous strawberry meringue dessert to finish. Then off to our room for a beautiful night's sleep , we woke to sunshine and a fabulous breakfast , plenty of tea, coffee, toast, cereal, fresh fruit, delicious eggs cooked as you like, traditional fry up cooked to order, absolutely lovely. All the food is fresh and locally sourced. I highly recommend Carrygerry Country House for a quiet retreat. The location is perfect for Limerick,Shannon , Ennis and surrounding areas. I didn't meet Niall as he was busy cooking but Gillian was a wonderful hostess.

We visited this lovely Country House on Friday evening last for dinner. As many reviews have already stated, its location is among the beautiful rolling plains of Clare close to Shannon. A lovely quiet quaint location to spend a peaceful evening.
We were met at reception by a very helpful young man who showed us into a nice living room, took our drinks order and gave us our menus for our Dinner. A great selection to choose from. I chose the seafood chowder to start and the surf and turf for the main course. My wife chose the patè to start and the baked cod for mains. Our drinks came quickly and then we ordered our food. Shortly after, we were brought into a really nice conservatory for dinner. It was not very busy as we arrived circa 6pm for a 6.30pm seating. I have to say that the food was divine. My seafood chowder was hot, creamy, and full of flavour with a great variety of fish. My wife's Paté also hit the right buttons. My main was belly of pork served with prawns, lovely gravy, and a variety of fresh vegetables. The pork was served on a bed of beautiful mash. My wife's cod was also served on a bed of mash. We had plenty of everything we needed and it was so flavoursome and yummy we loved it. The food was so good we decided to go all the way and have dessert. I opted for the ice cream whilst my wife went for the rhubarb cheese cake. Both were excellent.
Our evening was just top class. The young servers were friendly and professional, the food was on a par with fine dining anywhere and very reasonably priced. We can not recommend this location highly enough, and we will certainly return soon.
Well done Carrygerry, keep up the good work.
Ray and Bernie.

This is a difficult review to write as there were some very good things about this B&B, but also some areas for improvement. First the good - this is a huge home and the bed in our room was a true king which was much better than a double. Also, the proprietor, Gillian was very friendly and helpful, along with her staff who all provided recommendations for local sites worth seeing. They also have a restaurant and bar on site, which caters to locals and guests. It was nice to come back at night and be able to have a cocktail then walk up to our room. Now for the suggested improvements - the decor and facilities could use a refresh. The flooring, bathrooms and even some furniture have seen better days and are quite soiled, dirty and at times we wondered if they were sanitary. Simple things like exterior paint, new shower curtains, new bathroom caulk and new curtains (half of ours were ripped from the rod) would completely update the facility. Because this is a working restaurant there was also quite a bit of noise from it below until after midnight on the nights it was open. So you may be well served to request a room further in proximity from there to avoid noise. This is very close to Shannon airport, but the airplane noise was minimal and I can see how this would be an ideal location for someone wanting to stay close by the night before an early flight.

+1
The hotel was lacking in some amenities, such as temperature control... at first at night it was far too warm, later it got quite chilly. We were in a courtyard room, the main house might be different.
The bed was comfortable and the TV was adequate. There was a vanity table, but there was no lamp on it to see by.
On to the dinner...quite pricey at 39 euros for two courses, but really excellent. Everything cooked to perfection. Service is slow, make an early reservation, it takes 30 minutes to have your dinner selection prepared fresh. It is worth the wait.
We were shocked a bit by the options at the Continental Breakfast...no baked goods, boxed cereal, small yogurts, pitchers of orange juice and milk, and a kettle for making instant coffee or tea. Not very happy about those choices. A muffin or scone would have been lovely.
If you're staying here to catch a flight to Shannon, be advised it is 13 kilometers to the airport and the taxi was 20 euros, an early taxi, 30.
The staff was friendly and courteous.

Thank you for taking time to review Carrygerry Country House. We take on board all reviews, good and bad and use them as a tool to improve our service where possible. We are delighted that you enjoyed dinner with us. Niall & his team use Fresh Local Produce and all our food is cooked to order to offer our customers a memorable dining experience. Taking todays current economic climate into account we feel our pricing is very competitive. Our Dining room is open from 8am to 10.30am and prior to these times there are limited options available. We will review this for next season. We are in a very convenient location to Shannon Airport being just a 10 minute drive away. Thank you for staying at Carrygerry Country House. I expected more from a top class restaurant/hotel; An Inn, but not?
The hotel had no where they offered you to sit before your room was ready. No bar open, nor could sit for a tea. Extremely, under staffed as I learned there were two seating rooms and a big dining area tea, coffee could be served throughout the day, add it to room cost if needed! Locked out from main building until 08:00??? Rooms still dirty; I believe due to a lack of maids as noticed only one and this is a very big place. Hand prints everywhere and spiders and woke up to a large one in bathroom sink. Rooms very clammy; we were on first floor second building unattached.
Breakfast continental put out sloppy and meant unimpressed especially when you have a top chief there. Scrambled eggs way over cooked and should always be put to side of salmon. No presentation.
Traveled 44 years overseas haven’t come across a European hotel run like this one. Improvements a must and not difficult.

We had stayed in the main house in the past and we were happy with that. This time we were in the courtyard. The unit we were assigned needed a good dusting, especially behind the bed. One bed side table lamp and the clock were not plugged into the wall socket and were too difficult for us to reach behind the bed to plug them in ourselves. The bath towels were cheap and skimpy. No washcloth was provided.
8AM for breakfast is a bit late in the morning for travelers wishing to head out early in the day. The breakfast was hot and tasty. Our young server was lovely.
On the plus side we were offered a cup of tea and a lovely snack when we arrived.

Thank you for taking the time to write your review. We always appreciate our guests feedback which we feel is very important in order to counteract any problems which the guests may experience. When booking it is advisable to indicate in the comment section if you wish to stay in the main house or the courtyard this would avoid any disappointment with the allocated rooms. On your booking form it would have confirmed the room you were allocated. Regarding the lamp, dust and towels, this was unfortunate but following your review countermeasures have been put in place to avoid similar occurrences for future guests. Concerning Breakfast time of 8am being too late a start, our Breakfast times are clearly mentioned on the booking site. We do have guests that depart earlier and we are always happy to provide them with a continental option which we leave in the dining room so they can help themselves. We would suggest mentioning this on the comment section of the booking form for future bookings. Again we thank you for your feedback which we find very helpful to keep on top of things as here at Carrygerry House we pride ourselves in offering our guests an enjoyable and relaxing stay.

The Carrygerry Country House provided an opportunity for a quiet relaxing stay while in the Shannon area. We found it a little difficult to find at first but it was worth the adventure. The location is very quiet and quaint with spectacular country views and not far from the Shannon airport.
The room was more than ample, the bed comfortable and the bathroom was nice. Our room was located in the courtyard at the side, there are others in the main building. The breakfast was excellent. The staff and management were attentive and provided great hospitality. Would highly recommend here for a stay, meal, or function. Thanks to Niall & Gillian Ennis.

Lovely large house in the countryside. Gillian is a lovely hostess. She is eager to help with anything you need. The room had a large bed and it was traditionally furnished. The bathroom is a small but ample size. The breakfast room is a lovely area full of big bright windows that look out to the countryside. Breakfast was prepared beautifully.
It was a little hard to find but there are signs along the road to direct you to the house. Our room faced the Shannon airport which was a plus for my husband. You were able to see the take off and landings but no noise.
Highly recommend!

Charming in with a perfect location. The proximity to Shannon airport makes it a great spot to stay before flying. The family who owns/runs the Inn is quite friendly and hospitable. We were in a room on the 2nd floor, very comfortable and quiet, with a lovely view. There were 3 issues of note for consideration of those who are looking for an inn when traveling through Shannon: 1) very few outlets in the room we had, none of which had USB access. The outlets we could access were not easy to reach, either. 2) our room was on the 2nd floor and there is no lift. Not a problem when we checked in, as a lovely young man carried our bags to our room. However, we left quite early in the morning and had to make our way downstairs with no assistance - while trying to be quiet and not wake others. As seniors (altho quite fit), this was a challenge. 3) the water pressure in our shower was the weakest I've ever experienced. I was glad to not have to wash my hair - I'd never have been able to get the suds rinsed out. Another positive observation, however, was that when we checked in we were told that there would be a light dinner served, so we had soup and a cheese plate, which were wonderful. No need to call a taxi to go out for a bite.
