Was here for the 1st time on May 2016 with some mates. For me, the hostel is quiet comfy, a simple hostel for a sleep well. Christian, the host is very kind and welcome. His son, Aldrin was our guide to Merapi Summit and the Medium Trekking, he was very helpful. I love the way they give the service for...

One of the most basic and run-down places I have ever stayed. Dorm is very cheap but dusty, dirty and old. Looks like it hasn't been dusted in a long time; feels dirty and claustrophobic. The building has some charm but needs tlc. Also the owner claimed there was no bus back to Yogya which wasn't true.

Birdwatchers Beware! On Sun Feb 5 we were booked for a 2 hour birdwatching excursion with Christian from Vogel's Hostel. What we thought would be a delightful day, starting with a generous breakfast, with snacks, water and lunch promised turned out to be a dangerous demanding hike which could have ended in disaster. Over breakfast, which offered no choices and...

We did not stay at Vogels Hostel, but only arranged a jeep tour to the places that got destroyed by eruptions. The house does have an interesting backstory, which Christiaan can tell you all about. (sidenote: Vogels = Birds, in dutch) I think the visit itself is not spectacular, but together with the guide it was a nice experience. He...

We stayed in a private room here, it was spacious and separated from the hostel so very quiet and relaxing. The room did have some ant problems, but they left us alone, and the bathroom was hard to stomach- bring shower shoes even for a private room. The hot water is fantastic though! There's no a/c, but not really necessary...

Wife, 2 kids and I stayed for 1 night to hike on Merapi. We stayed in one of the back bungalows. Room was sparse, reasonably clean, and bug free. Waking up with calls to prayer and roosters crowing through the night was fun and nice and added to the experience. Hiking with Christian's son was pretty dang rigorous and we...

The room is quite basic, I.e. no linen in dorm room. And not very clean. Bathroom is shared, but this is expected. However, the food is good. And the tour is interesting, it is hiking combined with sightseeing, so it is pretty interesting. Cozy village atmosphere

I stayed here during my visit to Kaliurang. I wanted to do a hike but I wasn't fit enough for it, instead I took a jeep lava tour. But being alone it would have costed me a bomb. Instead Christian helped me to call a friend and arrange almost 50% discount for a jeep tour, which i ended up enjoying...

First time came to Vogel, as I expected the place is so-so. But the owner, Christian was very nice. Not a lot of Indonesian tourist do trekking. They prefer take a 'Jeep' to climb up to Merapi mountain. I wanna try something new, so I did trekking to the Merapi Mountain. As I know, only in Vogels provided trekking package,...
