Our third visit and I’ve no doubt we will be here again.

It’s a special place in a beautiful setting with a laid back, happy vibe. It’s filled with lovely and very hard working staff who seem genuinely pleased to see you.

There’s so much to do both on the site and in the local area. Our children (a tween and an 8 year old) adore it. There’s a reason why people come back here year after year.

Some activities are at no extra cost (canoeing, pedalos on the beautiful lake etc) others carry a fee but it’s not extortionate at all (a tennis court for an hour is €6.50 - we’d pay twice that in the UK where we live). The shop is well stocked and handy for emergencies (and the amazing daily bread) but there is a massive Super U a short drive away for bigger shops.

The takeaway food is excellent quality.

It’s immaculately kept and very well run. The evening entertainment is low key but fun. The night pool disco was a big hit with young children, teens and adults alike.

We stayed in a country lodge this year (one of the newer mobile homes) and it was very clean and comfortable. We might try one of the safari tents next year!

Dear Bethany S, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your wonderful holiday review with us. We are thrilled to hear that you're already considering returning – that's the best testament to the special place we strive to create for our guests. Our idyllic natural setting does indeed contribute to that laid-back and joyful vibe that you mentioned. We're proud of our dedicated and hardworking staff who genuinely care about ensuring your stay is memorable. It's fantastic that your children had a great time here and we're glad you found the pricing reasonable, making it accessible for families to try out various activities. The low-key yet enjoyable evening entertainment is designed to create lasting memories for everyone, and it sounds like the night pool disco was a hit! We put a lot of effort into maintaining the site, and your acknowledgment of its cleanliness is much appreciated. We're looking forward to the possibility of you trying out one of our safari tents next year. You will have the choice between the existing Safari Lodges (2 bedrooms/6 persons max) and the new Premium Safari Lodges (3 bedrooms, up to 7 persons) located in a car-free area, currently being developed on the forest side. We appreciate your loyalty and can't wait to welcome you back for your fourth visit. Anne de Kerautem Bourgon Directeur général

Our first visit to La Garangoire was in 2014 the year of the 50th celebration, we loved it then and we love it now!

With the exception of the “COVID years” we have been back every year and in 2022 we stayed for 5 weeks!

As soon as we arrived it was like home from home. You immediately feel relaxed with a lovely welcome from the reception team and a personal escort to your pitch.

The pitches are superb, some more shaded than others, but all with plenty of sunshine for those who like to bake.

The site itself offers everything you need, with fresh pastries and bread daily and the majority of “basics” that you need to keep you fed and watered.

The cold water fountains were a great addition a few years ago and for a small price you get ice cold water literally on tap!

The site itself gets more beautiful every year. Every member of staff seems to take genuine pride in what they do. Ann and Eric are active members of the team, rolling their sleeves up where required, with no job too small for them. In particular I would mention the team in the Old Bar, the Reception team, the Pool Man and the Gardeners.

And I was really impressed to see Ann serving pastries one morning (8am) and then the same day moving chairs into the garden for the evening entertainment so that everyone got a seat (9pm).

Eric is a stickler for making sure that people follow the rules around the pool making sure that people don’t just leave their towels down and walk away. We’re always there early, but to sunbathe and swim not to “reserve & leave”.

My only slightly negative feedback would be the ice cream’s, the selection is fantastic but the serving size is poor. We went into Saint-Gilles and bought an ice cream from the front, paying the same price as La Garangoire and got 3x as much! A single boule at the site is more of a scoop and barely sits above the top of the cone. That said it maybe meant that I put a 1lb or 2 less weight on 😂.

Overall I could not recommend this site, the team and the facilities highly enough.

You won’t be disappointed if you book and you can be sure that we will be returning in 2023 for another 5 weeks…if they can squeeze us in!

Thanks all for another fabulous holiday, see you in 2023!

Absolutely fabulous campsite, we were sorry we only had 5 days there. We really felt like we were in France, the grounds are immaculate. From the time we checked in we knew we were in for a great time. Both the Eurocamp reps and Castell staff at reception were fantastic. In fairness everyone of the staff members we met were fantastic. We stayed in a ClassicXL, it was spacious and clean. Pitches are nice size. My kids thoroughly enjoyed evening entertainment especially magic show and night swim. My kids also loved the night of traditional music- the musicians were great and the dancers were brilliant with the kids. My son enjoyed soccer camp each morning (€6 for 2 hr session), my other kids loved the Eurocamp kids club. Park also offered kids club. Plenty to do everyday. Pool was lovely, pools are not heated. Covered one & slides were a big hit. Loved that nobody put towels on sun beds to keep them, it’s not allowed and nobody did it. Takeaway was nice, pizzas were gorgeous & reasonably priced. We ate in restaurant and that was lovely too. Bike hire was pricey and we did have issue with a brake snapping on bike but they replaced bike. Just check brakes aren’t too stiff when you collect. Only issue we had was night of crepe party, one of the owners of bouncy castle (not Castell staff) was very aggressive with kids. He didn’t have Bob/t-shirt on, he looked like a very cross father giving out to the kids. I did speak to Castell staff about him as he literally ruined my son’s evening, he did seem to ease off afterwards. Park very quiet at night. We would absolutely return as we didn’t get time to do a lot of the activities on site. Park has a fabulous feel to it, hopefully we’ll get to go again next year!

We happened on this site by accident. It's family run, and that's obvious in the care and attention to detail everywhere. Pitches are large and spaced out, and the facilities are well kept. There's a good quality restaurant as well as a take-away, and the on-site shop is well stocked with a good range of things and prices that are pretty well aligned with average shops in France. The noisy parts and the entertainment are distant from the bulk of the camping pitches and mobile homes so that even on nights where the entertainment finishes later the site is never noisy. We were there with Eurocamp, and while the reps were welcoming and helpful (particularly so when there was a problem with out water heater) we tended to have more contact with the camp site reception staff for activities, information etc. It's been a long time since I have been to a site that felt so relaxed, that made me feel so at home. My yardstick for sites is whether I'd go back. And here, it's a definite yes. Other things to consider are the Atlantic ocean a short drive away, and the amazing Grand Defi adventure parc about 1 or 2km down the road. Thanks to the staff and the owners for the welcome and for the care and attention that they take in their work. A real gem.

As the title says we've been to the campsite a number of times before. However we hadn't been for around 4 years and with our eldest child now being a teenager we were unsure whether the campsite would be as good as before.

We had booked a TAOS accommodation this year where previously we'd always gone for a Riviera before. It was fantastic, spacious with plenty of room for us as a family with a lovely enclosed garden area. The location itself was perfect, really close to all the facilities yet was very quiet and peaceful. The only negative on the accommodation was the awning over the decking area. The material itself did not keep the rain out which meant it was not possible to sit outside when it was raining, but that was a small issue.

We ate twice in the restaurant which was first class and used the take away on a number of occasions. Lots of activities were onsite for the kids to do, with the highlights being the scuba diving introduction and the horse riding.

We loved our time there again, it really does feel like a home away from home and everyone working on the campsite makes you feel incredibly welcome. We're looking forward to planning our next trip there.

Our first time camping in France was all we expected and more. La Garangeoire is beautiful, friendly, well run and peaceful.
We took our own tent but opted for premium pitches with bbq, fridge, table and chairs, sun loungers and parasol provided which made such a difference for packing. Shady quiet pitches, all respected the night time quiet so could hear owls in the forest.
Pools and lagoon were lovely and spotless, takeaway great, bar very relaxed. Kids had loads of freedom on bikes, also did football course, pony riding, mini golf, pedalos, we did family crepe making and adults only wine tasting in the chateau was a highlight. Low key live music, bouncy castles and acrobats made evenings at the bar a fun and chilled option.
Kids cried when we had to leave, we can see why people return year after year.
Amazing effort La Garangeoire, thank you

This camp site is situated on amazing grounds. We visited in peak season this year and would not go back there again.
3 times we asked for an outdoor bin to be provided and it never arrived.
We found some of the staff quite rude, when I ordered a second drink I was told to bring back my glass before they would serve me another one and to "bring it now"
Our daughters bike that we rented went missing for a few days and we were still charged for those days and told we would have to pay for the bike in full if it could not be found. It was found after a few days. Not sure if another child took it as we searched the place.
There was no chance to get a lounger by the pool after midday
I usually do not write negative reviews but for what we paid for the holiday we felt very ripped off. We went on to another campsite La Rive after this stay and it was far more enjoyable.
The kids club, our kids only used on the first day. I think the kids need to be under 10 to enjoy it but our son who was 8 didn't want to go after the first day. The staff were fabulous at the kids club though and did try and entice them
Its a shame to give a negative review as the setting is gorgeous and I thoroughly did my research prior to this holiday. I felt they had too many tourists packed in.

La Garangeoire is a unique and very special campsite located in the heart of the Vendee, around 15mins from the beaches and close to neighbouring towns and villages with a variety of local French markets, great cuisine, artisan breads, cheeses and wines.

The campsite is large with numerous facilities and services onsite, enough to keep guests entertained should they want to remain on site. There are three pools for slides, general splashing about and lane swimming. The site has extensive grounds with trails for horse riding (equestrian centre and tuition onsite), mountain biking, trail running and walking. The private fishing onsite is pretty good too.

Site has a shop, take away, restaurant (really good standard) and two bars. Lots of entertainment and activities organised throughout the week for those wanting to keep active.

Facilities are of a high standard, spotless and well run. Staff are knowledgable, multi lingual and most importantly friendly.

Have been coming to this site for many years now as it offers everything my family needs for a great holiday - cannot praise enough. I'll be back...

Our 3rd visit to this lovely site and everything was spot on. The only 1 criticism this year was the lack of soap in the toilets and how clean they were. The soap is in the campsites control but i have to say I have no idea why the campers leave the toilets in the state that they do - have more respect. When the campsite became quieter at the end of the season the toilet cleanliness was back to excellent ?

Very good value for money. Accommodation is clean and quite. Check in was very good and not time consuming, staff are all very pleasant and helpful. The facilities are varied and very good, restaurant and bar is child friendly. The take away is again good value and should meet most requirements. Swimming pool area very safe and well maintained. The sites location is very good,15 minutes from some excellent beaches and about an hour from quite an array of theme parks, water slides and adventure parks. I would definitely recommend and have no hesitation in revisiting.

Castel Camping La Garangeoire is a family-owned private campsite offering touring caravan pitches and static accommodation. Eurocamp is a tour-operator renting its own accommodation in the campsite. Included activities and services are globally the same whether you book direct or through Eurocamp. Main difference is the specific Eurocamp Kids club, run by native English & Dutch staff , which has longer opening hours and provides more age groups than the Garangeoire one.

Bonjour, If you are flying to Nantes Airport, here are the some options for getting to La Garangeoire : -Either you book a private taxi, directly from Nantes airport to La Garangeoire, which is one hour drive. You can contact our reception team to get their phone number and email address. Or you can rent a car with our partner EUROPCAR. Cars can be collected and dropped at Nantes. You will benefit from a discount of 15%. - Finally, you can take the train from Nantes to La Mothe Achard, the nearest town from the campsite and then book a taxi. From the airport to the train station of Nantes you have to get public transport (shuttle bus). We hope this helps.

Can you wear shorts in the pool ?

Wearing bermuda shorts is tolerated provided they contain no metal accessories and are only used in the swimming pool.

The site is quite rural, I think it would be difficult without a car. When you walk out of the site there isn’t even a pavement, you would be straight onto the main road. The town we go to most is Bretignolles sur Mer, but that is 20 mins away. It is a fantastic site though, and if you can drive, go!
