First impression walking up to the hotel, I was hopeful. It looked like a nice old authentic hotel...with a terrace. It is a 2 star at best... The towels were hard, the rooms and air conditioning systems were outdated/ not functioning. Our sink was motion activated and had a water leak... it stopped working almost on a daily basis or...

This hotel is ideally located for a short break in Budapest. It is on a main bus route with the bus stop a few steps away from the front door. For those unfamiliar with Budapest it is worth noting that all public transport is free to those aged over 65 with an EU passport. The passport may need to be...

Stayed at this hotel with friends for a girls weekend away. Hotel on a very busy main road so very noisy with the window open. No tea or coffee facilities in the room, no iron so you have to pay the hotel to do your ironing. Not one English speaking channel on the television in the room. Ok so the...

We stayed at this hotel which was quite some distance from central Budapest. Our room was extremely noisy since it was at the front of the hotel. Traffic roared past, racing up the hill continuously. There was air con but the fan was very noisy and it wasn't terribly effective. There was no room safe and no coffee or tea...

This lovely little hotel is situated about 10 minutes walk from the bridges crossing the river Danube. We were met at reception by a friendly, bearded (not female then) receptionist who spoke excellent English and explained everything that we might need to know regarding the hotel. The lift that took us up to our room was one of the most...

Located on Gellert Hill (bonus as you only have to walk part of the hill up to see the view and monuments!), close to Castle Hill and Chain bridge and only a short walk into the town centre (there are cheap buses for the way back up the hill if you're not feeling up to it), surprisingly quiet given it's...

It is a historical-looking villa with small garden, located next to a busy road and approx. 10-minutes walk from Buda Castle and Citadela. If you do not mind a little walking, you can even get to Pest without public transportation (30 minutes of walking). It has a hotel restaurant which is overpriced and not very good. We ate there only...

We checked in and on the reception we were surprised that there will be an additional fee (5 % of the amount) if we pay with a credit card, unless you pay cash. I asked the receptionist why this is not written anywhere and they explained me that "I was told by them so this is now official"?!?! The parking...

Staying in Gellert Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Gellert Hill
If you want to treat your camera to some amazing scenery, Gellért Hill is a must on your itinerary. A funicular journey from the Chain Bridge along the hillsides provides a fast connection between Buda and Pest, hoisting visitors to panoramic vistas. Once on top of the hill, you’ll find the Citadel dominate the landscape with its imposing 19th century construction, a site that’s hard to keep your eyes on without being distracted by the phenomenal view over the Danube and the eight bridges crossing. Once on Gellért Hill however, one mustn’t miss the famous Gellért Baths. Budapest is renown for its thermal waters and its baths, and the Gellért Baths are housed in an impressive art nouveau structure. Its interior design, with its many mosaics, recalls the preceding relationships the city has had with healing springs and saunas, traditionally used within this neighborhood since the Ottoman Empire.
