As noted above, the Swiss Travel Pass is a great help if planning side excursions. Many are covered by the pass. We got a 15 day pass for a 2 week vacation, and it covered boats, busses, gondolas, funiculars, etc. Sometimes it just offered a substantial discount, but most often covered the whole expense.

I stayed here in June 2016. At that time there was a new building in construction with the crane. I had a staubbach room which the crane was right between the room and the waterfall. Not so great for photos, but you still get views. I'm not sure which direction the valley view H-100 faces, but may not have the crane (assuming we're talking about the same crane).
