We were served by a surly barman wearing filthy track pants - ordered 2 x half dozen Bluff Oysters 6 natural and 6 Kilpatrick.

Across the road from our motel (La Rochelle - recommended) The Grand Hotel is a misnomer, it should be called Eric’s Pub after the proprietor. He greeted us from the bar and recognising our accents (aussies) immediately got cheeky! Bar menu was good, food good, nice NZ white wine

For our sole evening in Akaroa, we decided to eat at a major hotel, 'The Grand Hotel', but it was not as expected.
