It is a historical building which is delightful. The staff has been more then nice and helpful! Nice place to enjoy of little akaroa, and it's in the center. The kitchen and common areas could be a little small but there is another kitchen and I think there are not that many beds. Would recommend it for sure!

Many many thanks for our one night stay (we would have love to stay longer). The place is comfy, cute and welcoming. All hostels say they are "home away from home" but this one trully is. My trip was 9 months ago now but can't forget that cute little place so had to comment. The owner is very nice and...

We pulled up here late one night and stayed in the private triple room, the only one available at such late notice. The next morning we decided that rather than heading off as planned, we would take advantage of the Winter Special (pay 2, stay 3 in a dorm) and hung around this lovely place for three further nights. I'm...

Visited Akaroa and decided to stay over at Chez la Mer. Turned into 3 nights. It is a lovely place, roaring log fire, the people who help run the place are kind lovely guys and polite and go out of their way to help when they can. However the dorm I was in was cold-to be expected despite being told...

A great place to relax in Akaroa. The sitting room is great to sit by the fire on a rainy day and the back yard is great with good weather! The dorms are nice, comfortable beds. Would be nice if the doors locked but not a deal breaker at all. Great place for travellers who are looking to work for...

Upon arrival to the hostel we were greeted by the manager on shift. She had a go at us for 5 minutes for not ringing the doorbell. Despite us apologising profusely for this, her monologue dragged on! She also made us have an extra room, despite requesting only 5 beds, she have us a twin a double and a triple!...

Stayed here for two nights and enjoyed my stay. Great location right in the centre and they have a sailing boat to take people out on and it was great to see the village from the water plus the bonus was the dolphins we saw. The hostel is small and takes quiete a few people but it makes a cosy...

The hostel immediately has a peacfull spirit around it and is a good place to regain energy and rest. The garden with its pond and fish are very relaxing. Clean kitchen, rooms, showers which is not always the case at backpackers. Staff very friendly. Fred wifi. Near located to downtown. Free bike rentals

We stayed at Chez la Mer for 2 nights, once in the ensuite double and again in the standard double upstairs. We felt the hostel was really below the standard we got used to during our 1.5 months trip in NZ. For the first tine in NZ, we were greeted by a 'cash only' policy which made us withdraw money...
