Detailed Reviews
We were the only guests and occupied the first room at the top of the stairs: Morning Glory, so this review is slanted. The bed was king size and very comfortable, not too soft. The room is well equipped with a claw-footed tub as well as a tile shower. Nice towels. It’s an 100 plus year old building so naturally the floors creak. We had a quiet 2 nights, but again, with no other guests, can’t speak about sound from other rooms. Very nice to have a washer and dryer to use. Location is superb: near Up the Creek Oyster Bar, the Icehouse has music in the evening and The Chowder House around the corner has wonderful vegetarian/vegan breakfasts and lunches. We enjoyed our stay.

We try a different place every time we visit Apalach, and this was our first stay at The Bowery. We stayed in the Morning Glory room, and on this freezing cold weekend we had the whole building to ourselves. Our room was right across from the open kitchen area and it was luxurious to wake up and make our coffee and tea with very little effort-everything you need is right there. The king size bed was super comfy and our room was lovely. We sat on our porch in nice rocking chairs and looked out over the river. Great restaurants and shops are 2 minutes away as well as the beautiful beaches of St George Island state park. Merrill, our concierge, checked on us via email several times to make sure we were warm enough (we were) and to make sure we didn't need anything. The building is very old but beautifully restored and comfortable. We'll make a point to come back here again!

The Bowery Inn is a very nice inn located just off the main drag of Apalachiacola, so you can easily park and walk throughout the town area (assuming anything is open, which we quickly found, is seldom - things close down early and are locked-up tight on Sundays, making things a bit inconvenient for travelers looking for dinner/places to hang out in the evenings). The Bowery is decorated nicely, and accommodations are comfortable. It does not have a FULL kitchen, but you can make coffee and bring cereal, etc. to have while you're there and they have a refrigerator for guest use, which is great. Also, on-site laundry was great as well. The walls are THIN, so be forewarned, and there is no elevator, so it is not ADA accessible. The last night we were there the air conditioning in our room went out (even though we followed their instructions for operating the unit). We left messages for the management staff and never heard back, which was disappointing (but it was a Sunday, so maybe the ghost town of Apalachiacola applies to them as well). We spent our days at the state park on St. George Island, which is a quick drive over the bridge. The Bowery Inn (booked on VRBO) was a nice, affordable alternative accommodation to the expensive properties on SGI. Overall, we had an enjoyable, relaxing stay. It is a neat, sleepy little town. They have a ton of cute gift shops, though we only were able to window shop, as they are not open in the evenings.

Enjoyed our mid week 3 night stay. Inn was clean and historic. Common area fridge, toaster oven, coffee maker, plates, cups. Double washer and dryer available also.
One note, Sound travels easily through wall and windows. Other guests were very considerate during our stay. The rooms each have a white noise machine to help. Did not have a problem sleeping.
Forget me not room could use some real curtains instead of the 100 year old wooden shutters, which don’t close well.

Our stay at the Bowery Inn was such a relaxing time! We were there two nights celebrating our anniversary and stayed in "the Morning Glory" room. When we first arrived, we had a hard time using our personal code to enter the inn. After a call to Merrill, the manager, she gave us a temporary code until she could get ours re-set (due to a storm that day). They thought of everything to make this "self-serve" inn truly functionable. From our own personal code to enter the inn and our room, paper goods in the common kitchen area, ziploc bags and markers to label things placed in the fridge, coffee and condiments for the keurig and hot tea station, hair dryers in the common area storage, to soaps in the showers. They thought of anything we might possibly need and provided it upfront!
The rooms and common area were immaculate, very tastefully decorated, comfortable beds, and even the sitting area chairs were comfortable!
For us, the little bit extra we paid for the Morning Glory was worth it to have the soaking tub and the direct access to the porch from our room.
We would not hesitate to book here again and don't let the "self-serve" inn scare you. They truly made booking and staying here so easy with their clear communication. Not having a manager or caretaker on-site did not hinder us in the slightest. And when we needed them, they were easily accessible by phone and took care of our needs promptly and efficiently!

We've stayed in many places in Apalachicola over the years. The Bowery may be our new favorite. You let yourself into the bottom floor of a beautifully renovated old building and go upstairs. You have another code for your room (no keys). No one is working that you will see. There were 3 other rooms occupied out of maybe 8? Rooms total. We rarely saw anyone except on the balcony. There are larger and smaller rooms, so do some research and inquire about the right fit for you when making a reservation. We had a smaller room, which was perfect for 2. They are furnished mostly in "period" pieces. The bathroom is spacious and they supplied full sized shampoo, conditioner, and body gel. Bring your own hair dryer. We loved that the rooms had ceiling fans, a floor fan, and central a/c controls. Some Old b&b's are just too warm and stuffy. They have extra blankets in an old steamer trunk in the hall. A laundry room is available which is great for beach items. There is a full sized kitchen with a Keurig and coffee, tea, hot cocoa, cream, and sugar provided. Cups, plates and bowls and plastic cutlery are provided, but you will need to bring your breakfast items. Large fridge to store your items. They have a Toaster oven. The balcony is the best to relax with a nice drink. Up the Creek restaurant is my favorite and you can walk to that and to most others downtown. The prices were very reasonable! In my opinion, as a parent, this place is really for adults. It was very quiet and an awesome getaway.

Not as nice as expected. The bed was definitely smaller than a queen and not comfortable. This place was in a part of town that did not seem safe. It was clean and charming, but we did not sleep. The porches are nice.

When we pulled up at the bowery inn hub was a bit surprised to say the least as its a small wooden old building with unused space below and the rooms above but i liked it!
The studio below the rooms had been damaged in the previous years hurricane and was being repaired so that will hopefully be up and running soon.
You have a key code to get in to the main building and your room which was all fine. You pick your room from the website so you can see what each room is like. Ours was the forget me not room which was small but ok for a few nights, i wouldn't of picked it if we were there longer, they do have larger rooms too.
It is very old but refurbished without losing the charm of the building. Which means some parts are fragile and need careful handling.
You have a communal kitchen with a shared fridge which was fine and space to cook and eat if you wish.
The main attraction for me was the porch with the chairs as i do like sitting out reading or having a drink watching anything that is going on. In this case not a lot as its at the end of town but a few minutes walk to shops and bars.
If you like everything spick and span don't book here but if you like traditional florida buildings and its only for a few nights then i think you'd like it

We stayed here with 3 other couples so we had all 4 rooms. Nicely renovated building built in 1900. All the rooms are upstairs. There is a common area/kitchen with a small table and seating for 5 people.
The common area needs more seating. The rooms are nice but our bed was too soft. Beware that there is a common HVAC system so there is one temperature option for all rooms. Plus you can hear everything throughout the place including sounds outside the building.
The covered porch is nice but also needs additional seating.
The kitchen has coffee, tea, sweetened and creamers, plates, utensils, cups, glasses, refrigerator and toaster oven. A bottled water cooler would be nice as the local water is not desirable to drink.
If you like quant and quirky, this is a good place. Plus the location is convenient to all the restaurants, bars, shops where you can walk to everything. Bring ear plugs.

We escaped for the weekend and stayed in Harper's Beauty. No TV; no fridge. Just the necessities. Very comfortable and clean. Located away from the busy section but still within walking distance to a variety of restaurants and close to Veteran's Park Love the patios. Beautiful view of the river. Discovered a second third story patio (for two). Great common kitchen and complimentary k-cups and tea. Quiet and peaceful. Don't be fooled when you first drive by. It's a gem!
