This resort elevates customer service to a new level. The staff, the grounds, the food, the atmosphere was above and beyond amazing. I can’t express how thankful we were to be welcomed by such lovely and generous people at the Alaia. The hotel arranged our transportation from the BZE airport and it was seamlessly executed with no down time or any stress whatsoever. The rooms were lovely and always impeccably clean. Specific individuals who went out of their way to treat us and all the guests they come into contact with were, Eric, Anjela, Minelia, Maria, Dennis, Edwin, and Alex.

This is our third trip to the Alaia and we can’t imagine staying anywhere else! Yes the hotel is amazing. The service amazing. Our room always is immaculate! But the staff are super nice and welcoming. Very professional at the same time. (We are huge fans of Eric who always takes such good care of us) San Pedro is also a safe island to enjoy! Rent a golf cart and enjoy what it has to offer. Smile and everyone smiles back. It’s contagious.

This is not a party hotel. So if you are looking for pool activities etc. This isn’t the hotel for you. However, if you are looking for a relaxing and romantic place to stay, this is it. Food was amazing. I suggest the all inclusive package, it’s worth it. The one bedroom suite is bigger and nicer than most apartments I’ve ever seen. The staff will go above and beyond. I want to mention the phenomenal staff members I had the pleasure to meet. Jesus, Elvis, (Bell hops) Miguel, (Manager), Monica (swim up pool) And Janil.

The hotel arranged a taxi to pick us up at the airport. After check in, Elvis took us to our room (a resort view suite). He told us about the resort and also recommended a few places to eat. Chef Alex did a great job and we spoke with him about the hotels and his experience. It was a nice personal touch. We did have sushi upstairs, breakfast every morning and we also had pizza take out from the hotel. All of our food was very good. Our favorite bar was the one close to the house pool by the pier. Food/drinks were very reasonable for a resort part of a large corporation. Kenny took great care of us at the pool. He provided great service and was always there to check in and was engaging. The entire team was helpful and provided great service! Our room was quiet, clean and cool. We had everything we needed in our room. We had a great stay. You can rent a golf cart from the hotel but it is much cheaper and just as easy to rent from another vendor-we used MK golf carts and had a great experience. Recommend a short walk/golf cart ride to Palmilla restaurant at Victoria House. We had one of our favorite dinners there. My only negative-chairs were in short supply at the pool and the beach. It seemed like no matter what time of day, there were never enough. There is a lot of space where extra chairs/umbrellas could go. Since we spent a good portion of our time by the water it was always a constant hunt for a chair. That's the only reason 4 stars instead of 5.

I visited the Alaia hotel in San Pedro, Belize on Nov. 7th 2023. It was the absolute WORST experience ever. The manager, Mark was very rude and condescending. I am a marriott bonvoy member with status and an American Express Platinum card member. When I asked Mark about the late check-out and a possible room upgrade, that comes with the card status, Mark, said that he was unwilling to do either. I then asked if he could speak to my AMEX concierge person to get an understanding of the perks. He snatched my iPhone and went to the back office with my personal item. When I asked if he could place her on speaker so that the three of us could talk he said NO. I asked if I could have my phone back because it has my personal information on it - he continued to over talk me and finally said he wanted me and my guest off of his property and proceeded to call the police to have us escorted off of the grounds. This was the birthday trip from HELL. Mark has absolutely NO business in his position. When I asked for his name and corporate information he refused to provide either one. He said that he was the only person in charge and no one was over/above him. After hearing the conversation, his co-worker, Jesus, was very nice and immediately offered us another hotel at the same rate. Jesus was very accommodating and admitted that his co-worker/boss Mark was being very rude and obnoxious. I left the hotel in tears realizing my birthday trip was ruined. I plan to contact corporate and take my concerns further or have someone contact me at 216-926-5542. Lastly, After purchasing a room, Mark refunded and refused my business as well. Mark is unacceptable and we plan to take legal action against him for his discriminatory and unruly behavior.

Overall we were very happy with the hotel and staff. Great hotel, food/drink were priced reasonably for a resort, people were very helpful. Also went scuba diving with the scuba company at the end of the dock on the resort and they were excellent. Only think I found irritating with this resort (and many others) is people claim most of the pool chairs early in the morning by leaving something on them and then they have them for most of the day regardless of how much time they actually use them. Resort has space for more chairs and umbrellas, if they had them the problem would be reduced.

This was our second visit to the Alaia and it will not be our last. From the moment you arrive, you feel like you are leaving all of the stress of everyday life behind. They greet you with a cool towel and juice while you are being checked in. Our room was an Oceanview Vista One Bedroom Suite. These rooms are spacious and there is more than enough room for two people. They are decorated beautifully! We loved sitting on our huge patio watching the sun come up each morning! We enjoyed breakfast at the hotel restaurant and made sure to have Maria wait on us each day with her easy, breezy, Belizee welcome! She was so kind, made great recommendations for breakfast and would ask us about our plans that day and offer suggestions or tips about Ambergris Caye. She is just so sweet! We also loved that they walked around each day with different treats for everyone to try. Everyday, it was something different, cookies right out of the oven, fresh juices, freshly baked donuts or a sweet fryjack! After breakfast, we would go to the pool each day and Rolando made sure to have our seats waiting for us. He would check in on us throughout the day to see if we needed anything. He definitely made our stay special! We had lunch at the resort a few times and that is the only thing about our stay that I think needs improvement. They give you menus from two different restaurants and most times, I would order from one and my husband ordered from the other. My meal would come out first because it was made by the kitchen at the Sea Salt restaurant where we would sit on the terrace and my husband's meal would come out maybe 20 minutes later because it was made at the Deck restaurant and they were busy. I am not sure why they couldn't use one menu or, have the ingredients in both kitchens. This would save the wait staff from running to two different kitchens to pick up orders and, they could be delivered together. Besides that, the food was very good! Our housekeeper LuLu also did a great job. Our rooms was always clean. She was super honest too. I threw away a shirt and she asked me if I meant to throw it away. I thought it was nice of her to check! She would also leave us notes to have a great stay! Besides it being a beautiful resort, with a beautiful pool, having great food and drinks, it has the best staff and they are what makes us want to return! We can't wait for our next trip!

Overall a fantastic hotel, and in most ways by Belize standards, it’s exceptional. It’s hard to compare it to American standards, but by Belize standards, it’s definitely a 5-star. The hotel is gorgeous, modern and stylish. It was one of the better Marriott properties we’ve visited. A few things you should know before you book… DO NOT book the reef rooms — make sure you have “vista” in the room type. The vista rooms/suites are all brand new, modern, most have full kitchens, they’re top notch and pristine. The reef rooms/suites are separated from the main hotel area and they’re at least 20 years outdated and very tired — plus they have major mosquito infestations. We ended up switching from reef to vista after one night and we were very fortunate to get a vista room by complaining to management and requesting a room change and this swap completely changed our entire experience at this hotel. Absolutely do not book in the Reef rooms!!! We were there Thanksgiving week, and every single day they had a live DJ at the main pool plus evening lobby entertainment, it was so awesome! The dive/snorkel center on site is the best — use them for your tours. It’s not just convenient, they are truly the very best on the island. The restaurants at the hotel are surprisingly very good. Especially the one on the dock, called the Deck. We went into town and tried many restaurants and I recommend doing so, but definitely the Deck is one of the hotel restaurants worth visiting. Location wise, Alaia is right where you want to be - near town but not too close. A golf cart is a must but absolutely do not rent to the hotel because it’s $100 per day and if you rent through one of the many many, private places in town or online, it’s $150-200 for an entire week. Hot water at the hotel was iffy. Sometimes we had it and sometimes we didn’t. But we experienced this problem elsewhere in Belize so I’m not sure it’s an accurate representation of a hotel problem than it is a developing country with limited resources. Housekeeping was great and thorough. They include turn down service and even left chocolates for the kids and robes for adults. Massage tip - walk to the beach, and as you are facing the ocean walk left about five minutes for a great massage hut over the water. Not on hotel property, right of property, some of the best massages we’ve ever had, and very reasonably priced. The beach is OK, but not fabulous, but this is the case with almost every place on the island. People don’t realize most beaches are not sandy white with turquoise waters. Hence, stay at a hotel like Alaia with great pools (loved their rooftop pool!). And now, for a few other things, you should just know before you go… it seems Alaia could make these improvements and take things up a notch, they might be petty, but they were nerve-racking during our stay. And so easy for the hotel managers to address and resolve. Every single day they would run out of towels at the pool. This is so perplexing, because after the first or second time it happens, you would think they would know how to gauge demand and they would do a big load of laundry around lunchtime to avoid this happening. But no, every single day it was the same problem. So frustrating. They would always ask for your room number to get towels, but they didn’t require you to the return the towels, so I’m not exactly sure what the point is of telling them your room number. Hotel is secure so there aren’t people strolling in from the beach or street crashing the pool. Wi-Fi was a pain. You could connect easily but each time you set your phone down, you had to reconnect the device again. Service was inconsistent. There were all stars like Mini at breakfast, Elvis at the door, Lilian in reservations, Paula and the gentleman who is executive chef, and Florett in housekeeping. And there were others that we never want to see again like Veronica at the front desk. For every blasé or less than enthusiastic hotel employee, there was usually two who knocked it out of the park. Just seems like management could raise the bar and ensure everyone is consistently delivering exceptional service every single time. We visited the jungle in Belize for 3 days where it was hard to find employees, but the people who worked at those resorts were so grateful to have their job, and they were so kind and willing to please always and they went above and beyond. For whatever reason there were some employees at Alaia who did the bare minimum (at best) or acted insulated when asked for something within their job role. Slowness was also an issue which is odd because it wasn’t like there is anything else for certain employees to do. The beach bar is great for happy hour, but it never made sense why three days in a row they didn’t have a corkscrew to open the wine by the glass on their menu. It’s a Beach Bar - who doesn’t have a corkscrew when there’s wine on the menu? Every single time we waited for 15 or 20 minutes for someone to bring the bartender a corkscrew to open wine. Again, no problem the first day, but when it happens every single day for multiple days in a row, why wouldn’t they just fix this and leave a bunch of wine openers at the bar? Prior to arrival, we called the hotel many times to ask logistical questions, or speak to the Concierge, but the hotel rarely answered the phone even though it was driving usual business hours. I tried calling many times in a row and finally someone would answer and we got the help we needed, but it was not what I would expect for hotel of this caliber. Fortunately, once we arrived, it was easy to go to the front desk and get questions answered. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would 100% go back. No major issues and I’m sure the hotel will work out these other minor issues. There is no better place to stay on the island if you are looking for a modern upscale full service hotel.
